When I won several necks at the beer tie, I was happy. I had seemingly everything that I could need to tie flies every day for the rest of the year. Well, the one thing that I didn't have was a good container to store my stuff in. One day when I came home from school, I noticed a bunch of green bucktail on the ground in the living room. I Immediately knew what had happened. My dog had gotten into my fly thing materials. I went upstairs to asses the damage. It turns out that she had gotten up on my desk and eaten 2 necks, several hackle patches, two bucktails, a squirrel tail, a calf tail, some strung marabou and an unused spool of thread. I quickly got my stuff reorganized into two big clear plastic containers. Well, a few days later, I came home to notice the remains of a hen hackle neck in the living room. I went upstairs and noticed that my dog had managed to open a container. She had eaten three and a half more necks, another bucktail, the rest of my hackle patches, bead chain eyes, several packages of flashabou, two packs of strung hackles, my spool of Kevlar thread, my stick-on eyes, a sheet of sheet foam and some pearl braid. If anybody needs a new hunting dog, mine is for sale, cheep.

It sounds like you need to store your materials in a dog-restricted area of your house!  Our cats have taken a few marabou feathers, but otherwise are pretty good about leaving my stuff alone.  

Hunting season is ramping up -- if you can make friends with hunters you can get all kinds of good stuff.  I've found that MOST hunters like the idea of using as much of their game as possible and are usually more than willing to give you stuff they won't otherwise use.

Don't know if you have a dedicated tying area, where you can securely close the door, but you might want to look at pegboard and hooks to hang your materials out of canine reach. If your dog's a Great Dane, forget it. At least she didn't ingest any hooks.

Good call on pegboard. I have the $7 squares from Home Depot. Six are on this wall. Pegs from Amazon. Bins from Target. This allows me to keep better inventory so I don't end up buying duplicates. 

Speaking of tying I'm thinking we'll have an iron vise at Dans going away tie. Use materials in the club tying kit to clean it out. Dan picks winner. I'll throw in an unused 8wt line to winner.

Given the fact that that the average attempted listing is $10 or less ??? Complaining about everything state license fee to guide  fee is hilarious!! 

Dan Davila taught me how to cast a  fly rod. I am sure TPFR members have  benefitted directly from instructional Orvis Clarendon parking lot ( or Beer tie @ Whitlows) roof or Bethesda roof (with Trent Jones). Or Urban Angler with fellow TPFR member Richard Farino; this is a

I have benefited from a few of the post on the forum, I am certain other beginners and moderates have benefited from mine.  Full and fair disclosure; I am not sitting at a bar currently taking advantage of a "$3.99 happy hour discount versus my wife's crack of the the "whip" so I can vent about the benefits of licensing fees of brook trout fishing in the Shenandoah mountains versus or bone fishing fishing in the Bahamas!
There are a few if us willing and eager to pay all state and federal required fishing license "fees".
We get what we pay for!!! And thanks to Dan and Melody Davala, no one has paid more than a spool of cheap tippett for a lifetime's Lesson/experience!!
 Let's PAY IT FORWARD" and give the Davala appreciation and gratitude that he deserve!!

I found this comical because the same thing happened to me.... my yellow lab who is 11 years old has never chewed anything up ever, started by chewing up some bucktail of mine..... ate the hide, left the hair strewn about the dining room (aka tying room) for decoration....

Since the original post, Molly has upped her game and eaten every piece of nonsynthetic material that is still attatched to some sort of skin, including zonker and crosscut rabbit. she has figured how to get into my lockable containers. I had to make an orvis run. she seems to be digesting the fur and feathers pretty well, with the exception of the first two bucktails, which she barfed out. her barf plug looked like a hybrid with bob popovics's bucktail deciever that was the size of a whole bucktail and the fly that I won the grab bag with that I used a whole peacock feather and a whole brown ostritch herl for. (if you can't remember that, ask trent.). she is now under human supervision at all times and we have taken to not letting her inside the house when we go places.

Just make sure you keep your flies tucked away.  I'ld hate to have her eat your box of Clousers.

You're probobly right Rob. Carl, the dog only eats materials that are still attatched to skin, such as bucktail that hasn't been cut off of the fur. It's the tarpon bunnies and other zonker strip flies that she would eat, not clousers. an interesting side note is that I have never caught a fish on any variation of a clouser except my version that I call the foureyes. The foureyes is tied with hackle feathers on the bottom in place of bucktail and two sets of eyes for added weight.

"Near" or "in" the outflow?  

I'd like to nominate this as the best tpfr thread of the season!  I think we should consider working some geocaching into this by leaving tying materials at various sewage treatment discharges.
