New to Fletcher's Cove. Need some help.

I was at FC most of today and had a wonderful day on the water. My wife bought me a Deeper fish finder. Without it I couldn't find any fish on the shoreline(it only works after 5 ft of depth). With it I could only find that there were fish at the bottom of the 30ft channel and then 9-11 feet from the top of the water. None were biting on any artificial lures chatter, spinners, worms etc. Any advice? Beautiful day on the water, but I know I'm doing something wrong. Can't just be the time of year, right?

Is it worth trying the canal at FC or the run off?
