I was out fishing today with a spinning rod and caught my first snakehead today. I almost stepped on this guy and it gave me the snake posture. It scared the socks off of me.

I hate snakes!!!

Beware!!! they are out there...

Looks like a highly-annoyed black ratsnake based upon the ventral coloration and overall size and color (not 100% clear from pic). ย I had one for years and used to let it bite me to demonstrate how harmless they are. ย

I'm with you, Gene.ย Snakes are COOL!ย

My favorite place to visit at the National Zoo when our girls were little was the Reptile House. My wife would go find something to drink and wait outside for us.ย

One of my favorite vacation memories is the time when my dauighters and I watched a water snake ingest a 8-10 inch yellow perch in the shallows. Very cool.

one day I noticed our daughter's rat snake poking around a pointy wooden feature in his cage, and then begin to slide out of his old skin. The point held the skin right at the tip of his nose, and he just kept sliding out until he was all clean and shiny looking and the old skin was draped around the terrarium like some old panyhose. Amazing to watch!

I had a brown water snake watching me a couple weeks ago with its head peaking over a rock. I hooked a little blue gill and it was all over me! I'm pretty sure he was reacting to the helpless fish, but I heard the can also be territorial.

Speaking of wired animal encounters, PJ Daily and I saw a porcupine on the Lower Savage last year. I had never seen one before. Anyone ever encounter one around here?

Only seen them in the wild in Ontario - our late cocker spaniel once (and only once) had a painful confrontation with one.

You missed getting a nice Tribe baseball hat last night, ย Art.
