Hi all,  I am bringing my daughter back up to college in Hamilton NY this weekend and figured I would make the trip worth it by stopping on the way back to fish.  One thought was to stop at Yellow Breeches, but wondering if anyone has other thoughts on streams close to I 81 or rt.15.  Figure I would hit it Monday about noon for a few hours.  thanks

Terry, check out PA Fish & Boat Commission's map pages here: http://fishandboat.com/map98.htm.  Off top of my head, there's the Letort, Falling Springs, Conewago

I grew up close to Hamilton southeast of Syracuse, NY.  If you go another 40 miles north on 81, you can fish the Salmon River off of Lake Ontario in Pulaski, NY.

During the winter month's it's some of the best Steelhead fishing on the east coast if you dress for the weather.  They fish Steelhead all winter, but you should check the report and water level before wasting a day in the freezing cold.  http://whitakers.com/cgi-bin/htmlos.cgi/0010989.1.615035729552160397/report.html .  Steelhead fishing is hit or miss.  You also would have a 6 or 6.5 hour drive back down here to DC area.

Here are a bunch of commonly known streams along 3 routes:

70w to 81n has Beaver Creek in Md. Falling Springs, Big Springs, and Letort are not to far off 81. Be sure to hit the 901 Pub (1639 Sunbury Road, Pottsville, PA 17901) on your way up. Go with the broasted chicken. And a pint of draft beer is cheaper than a club soda.

270 to 15n you will pass Big Hunting Creek (I mention this again as it is just off 15 and it was not only feathered on channel 9 news in the 1994 with Gov. William Donald Schaffer fishing glo bugs, it was also featured on Fly Fishing America in 1994 with a special feature on the Joe Brooks memorial and Brotherhood of The Jungle Cock). You will also be near the Yellow Breeches.

If you do 87 north to 15 you will pass the Gunpowder.

Hit up these fly shops and guides for current information:

Falling Springs

On my way back from NY over the holidays, I stopped just north of Harrisburg and tried out Clark's Creek on 325.  While I didn't catch anything, I saw plenty of fish there in the fly fishing only section across the street from the gun range.  Nice and easy to wade, I only had about an hour to fish, and then got stuck on 81/83 for 45 minutes while the noreaster dumped on us.

The address is roughly (3171 Clarks Valley Road, Dauphin PA) but there is no structure there to get mail.

Continue on 81 into Harrisburg towards the Susquehanna River, go North on 22 , east on 225 Peters Mountain Road, Then Right on Clarks Valley Rd., Continue up the road and you will see parking areas for the Clarks Creek.  Park, walk across the street to paths to the creek.  It is a tail water from the the Harrisburg Reservoir,  Great place to fish in the winter. Great wooded creek.  Very accessible.  and never too crowed.  15 minutes from your path home (81) all public land (WMA)
