Dear TPFR Membership and Lurkers:

We had our first meeting at Board Room VA, and overall I want to share why I think it was a strong success and get structured feedback from the membership as we evaluate whether this venue is a good fit going forward.

Quick recap:

  • We had 20 attendees, which for a club in transition is a great turnout and effectively gives us a solid baseline.

  • We filled the space we occupied, which I’ll include a photo of below (photo taken a little after peak attendance).

  • The beginners table was right in the center of the action and was absolutely packed all night. Fun!

  • There was additional seating available at the bar stools, which stayed more open. There was more seating available before a big round cement column that we didn't need and that another group ended up filling.

  • Lighting was excellent:

    • Tables had direct spotlights

    • The venue also turned on overhead Edison-style string lights, which made the space even brighter and more comfortable for tying and demos.

  • About half of attendees ordered food, and feedback on the food itself has been positive.

Early feedback & open questions:

  • Some board members have raised concerns about:

    • Overall venue size

    • Server attentiveness

  • My personal take:

    • The space we used felt ideal for baseline meetings

    • On nights where we expect larger turnout, I think there’s additional space we could reasonably claim with an early arrival

At this stage, I don’t want decisions driven only by board impressions—this venue should work for the members.
So I’m asking everyone who attended (and even those who didn’t) to take 2–3 minutes to fill out a short feedback form.

Your responses will directly shape whether we:

  • keep Board Room VA as a regular meeting spot,

  • use it selectively, or

  • continue looking for alternatives.

Thanks again to everyone who came out and helped make the first meeting here a success.
