I'll be staying at a house on the public side of Lake Anna this weekend, and will probably take a few hours to do a little fishing from a kayak. Any advice, flies, etc.?

Typical bass stuff will work, try throwing white/grey #4 clousers and see if you can pick up some stripers, largemouth, and crappie.  The real trick this weekend is going to be finding someplace that doesn't resemble a zoo.  Anna gets a ton of recreational use (speedboats, jetskis, water skiers, that kind of thing) on long weekends.  Might be a good time to fish way early and way late and have a mid-day siesta.

Check out this report from a couple years back (specifically the blog link on 11/29), a bit later in the season but they caught a lot of stripers.

Jeff,

Make sure you bring your fishing license. They DO patrol for fisherman and I have been checked there so make sure to carry it on you when you're out on the water.

Lake Anna is nuts on the weekend.  It is a huge pain in the butt to try to fish it when the water skis, jet skis, power boaters, and all the other crazy people on the lake.  The best bet is to fish during the week days.

The bridges hold crappie and they will bite the fly well.  I accidently caught a striper that was 26" on my flyrod when I was crappie fishing.  The bass there bite well but they get a lot of fishing pressure too.  The good part is that they don't see many flies.
