Hi All,

Evan D and I are heading to SNP tomorrow - was anyone here planning to fish the Staunton River? Let me know and I'd be willing to fish elsewhere to stay out of your way. Hope I'm not outing anyone's secret spot.

Figure with the spawn coming up soon and the recent rain it should be great fishing in the park this weekend.

Tight lines,
Andrew

That's a solid one for sure, though not Bethy's first choice if you're making the drive down to the Conrapistan area.

There are no clear rules for "outing" spots.  There are arguments for and against, and you'll have to decide on our own -- it can become kind of philosophical, and it somewhat depends upon your age, mobility, and retirement status as well.  For example, people who work full-time, are competent fishermen, and who only have weekends to fish probably don't want to see people mention the names of their favorite stream because they don't want to show up and see people trampling around, putting down fish and whatnot.  Others may not care at all, because they can fish during the week.  Some people only care about outing specific streams, for various reasons (like maybe they live on it).  Some people hate everyone and everything, and only show up once a year on here to argue about something.  Some people love everyone and share everything.

I would just caution you from my experience -- if you provide anyone free information (here, by PM, or at a tie), you have to make sure that you aren't expecting anything at all in return, possibly not even a simple "thank you" if you what you provide actually aids in them having a good experience.   For every post on here, there are probably 600 people reading, contributing nothing whatsoever, and who may be standing in a spot you'd like to fish should you choose to talk about it.

Don't be surprised if someone reads this post, fishes around for their TPFR password (or registers) and posts something angry, and then disappears again forever.  I'm pretty sure I have the record for that on here....

Thanks for the reply Gene. I figure that stream is a little smaller than most people like to fish and in 4 or 5 trips I've never caught any big brookies there like you can find in some other park streams. I agree that there are better ones in that area of the park. It's a good one for the somewhat limited amount of time we'll have - so I'd hate to get down there and find out we're fishing behind someone.

As for talking about spots, if it's somewhere that someone else tells me about I will never say a peep online (and probably not in person either). If it's one that I found through my own exploring or from easily found internet info I'll still just speak in general terms. I am a big believer that you can talk about a stream by name without outing how well or not well it fishes. Then if the person still wants to explore on their own, good for them.
