i live in the Huntington area of Alexandria and my wife has the car for the weekend. I thought this would be a good chance to try somewhere nearby. Does anyone have any thoughts or tips on lower Cameron run or four mile run, or suggestions on anywhere else within a few miles?

I'd probably hit 4MR and/or Gravelly Point. At 4MR, fish by the bridge near the Toyota dealership and/or the two big cylindrical thingies after the bridge on the way to the water treatment plant. There are big catfish aplenty now.

I know this is a few days old now, but wasn't there a raw sewage spill a little while ago in the duck pond? Not sure I'd want to go wading through there yet. Also, 4MR by route 1 has been smelling especially foul this past week or so. Anyone else notice this?

Not sure if the 4mr smell is all the turned up soil from the park construction. Smells up near there as well.

4MR is right next to a "pump station" complete with primary sewage treatment -- it's going to smell bad to some degree, every day....it can vary in intensity based upon wind and temp and use, etc.

It's far, far worse over at DC water (formerly WASA) near the primary treatment.  You didn't want to drive by there on a hot July day with a north wind, holding a sandwich in one hand.

fair enough. But I normally fish 4MR at least 1-2 times/week all year, and I've never noticed a smell anywhere near as strong and gross as this.

Winter 2014 presented a very strong, "hypochlorite" kind of smell for several weeks.  I felt like it would eat away my waders, boots, and cause acute dermal tox issues.

BTW -- anything interesting in there lately?  I haven't been there since winter --
