April's Beer Tie is coming up next Monday, April 11 at the Sandbar at Whitlow's; bar opens at 6PM and they kick us out to the normal room at 10PM.

As always, we'll have a beginners table with Rob Snowhite teaching his Shad Jigs with all materials and vises included.

We also have a very special guest, Dean Naujoks, the Potomac Riverkeeper, to share some information about their organization and recent efforts. You've all seen the posts over the past few months about their work to stop Dominion from draining their coal ash ponds into the Potomac and the oil spill that Dominion also caused in Roaches Run, killing many fish and birds. This is a great organization that tries to keep our river clean and holds people or organizations accountable if they screw it up. We will let Dean take the floor for 10 minutes or so around 8PM.

Sounds like fun -- barring something obnoxious at work, we'll be there.

Another reminder, Beer Tie is tonight. We look forward to hosting Dean tonight and hearing more about the work the Potomac Riverkeeper is doing.

Been lurking on here for a few months and it looks like I will finally be able to make it to a beer tie tonight.

I am mostly a newbie to the world of fly fishing, but the active members on this forum have been a fount of knowledge about the ‘local’ fisheries so far. Hopefully I can make a contribution as well in due time.

Most of my previous fishing experience comes from my pre DC days living in the Florida Keys before I moved up here for graduate school. Although I’ve hung up my Capt hat for the time being, I still keep in contact with many folks down there, so I’m happy to help anyone planning a trip to the Keys whether it be DYI or through a Captain or anyone just looking for a real-time report.

I’ve been getting out as much as I can around here with limited success. As an added challenge, I try when I can to bring along my fishing buddy. As you can see from the photo from Holmes Run last Fall, sometimes she gets over all the standing around :0 I’m sure it will only get harder when she starts walking...

Looking forward to meeting some of you tonight.

Cheers,

Craig
