Hi,

This is my first post to the forum but I am a long time reader.  I am planning on taking my daughter out to fish in our 20' Jon Boat this Sunday and hoping ot hook up on the shad run.  I was hoping someone would be able to suggest the best boat ramps with access to the Fletchers boat house area of the potomac.  Thanks and good luck out there to everyone who plans on being out there!

Thanks,
josh

I think the closest boat ramp to Fletcher's is Gravelly Point.

Gravelly Point and Columbia Island Marina are closest to Fletcher’s.

The sign on the GWMP says Gravelly is closed 10pm-4am, and the sign when you get off the exit ramps says it’s closed 10pm-6am.  I called Officer McSherry at District 2 that says that the ramp is open at 5am, they’re working on something, etc.

Columbia Island costs $5, and is open 24 hours a day.

Make sure you have running lights and a lamp if you’re launching in darkness.  Lots of logs (aka crocodiles) on the river.

Scott,

If you run up to Fletchers with a boat of that size consider finding a large rock (back up anchor) and separate rope as an anchor.  You have a 50/50 shot a losing your traditional "anchor" in the boulders and rocks which make up the bottom. Especially with the higher flow. Also note that you are less likely to rake a rock if you stay 50 feet of the VA shore after Key Bridge.
