Has anyone been trout fishing lately on the Gunpowder.  I am thinking about going up this weekend.

I was there the Friday after Sandy passed through.  I spoke to Micah Dammeyer of Knee Deep and he convinced me (didn't take much)( that it would be fishable.  The water was definitely way up, but I caught a nice 12" brown on a #12 pheasant tail.  Stop by Backwater Angler on the web and in Monkton for a more recent report on conditions.

Cheers,

Gunpowder is always a safe bet... I grew up about 15 minutes from there... If we wanted to go big we would make the run for yellow breeches or spring creek (state college, PA), but if we were looking for a safe bet, that was where we headed, particularly in the summer when you could slam fish all day long with nothing more than a few tricos, tan caddis flies and black ants... This time of year, I would definetly pack some grey midges for surface action and plenty of pheasant tails to nymph (would recommend tandem to double your looks)

Was up there on Monday...fishing was tough but workable. Caught one on a nymph and four on dries. Best fly for the day was a stimulator caddis. Definitely always worth the trip up there!

Nicely done. That's a great day.
