Nice flies Terry -- I've been messing with featherwing streamers a bit but they don't look great.

Spinning deer hair is a summer activity for me.  When summer comes, I set up outside.  Otherwise I end up in the doghouse.

Foam, balsa or cork are ok, but deer hair get's everwhere.

When are you planning to fish the rats? I'm guessing you'll be mainly using them on spring creeks early and late in the day, starting in ~2 months (?).

Man, I gotta give up with featherwing streamers.  I can never keep the feathers paired exactly for tie-in, and after tie in (and unwrapping, and tie, and unwrapping) I am never happy with the placement directly on top of the shank.

tying in a few strands of blood marabou (after ripping off the crappy, stringy tips of course) is so much easier ;).  So is squirrel, bucktail, calftail, etc.

Well, with squirrel you have to be careful of the clump size since it is so darn hard (and tends to pull out if you use too much).  a Dab of glue helps too.

Not sure,  bass love them as well as trout.  I am planning on tying them up for project healing waters.

Lol -- my first thought was that you could do what Rob does (did?) and hit up a golf course pond.

That was the only time I caught fish in those ponds in 11 years. Total let down.
