SoCal (Dana Point) - Anyone been there?

Hello- 

I am going to be out in SoCal the latter part of the week and was wondering if anyone has fished from the shore or out on the rocks in that area - San Juan Capistrano/ Dana point area.  

Looking to throw the 8wt in suitcase and some clouser minnows unless anyone else has better suggestions, love to hear if anyone has fished it or has ideas!!

You can catch some nice little bass, croaker, and halibut from inside newport harbor. For the most part I think it would be a frustrating water to fish with the long rod. 

If you want to fly fish, I would probably do so from a sandy beach for corbina and perch. Small bait fish and shrimp patterns. clousers are fine, but throw some warm colors to imitate sand dwelling fare for the corbina.  Fish the holes close to shore you can catch nice fish in 5 inches of water.
