Cambridge, MD in early Oct?

Thanks for the info on Cambridge fishing. I noticed it's aimed at springtime. How are things in the Fall, like specifically this coming weekend? Have a kayak, don't like big water in it, being a beginner. How about the park with the long pier? The arial photos seem to show a nice estuary.

Oh, and where do I find out about tides? Is there a good tackle shop around?

Purely anecdotal, but I was in Cambridge for a conference back in December and in the course of conversation a couple of guys remarked that fishing near the pier was pretty good. It's a state park I believe. I have a note in my calendar, but it's only the name of a tackle shop: Chesapeake Classics in Cambridge.
