If you are looking for a way to create stunning 3D maps for your projects, you might want to check out 3D Map Generator GEO. This is a Photoshop plugin that allows you to transform any image into a 3D map with just a few clicks. You can also customize the map with different textures, colors, lighting, and effects.
In this article, we will show you how to use 3D Map Generator GEO to create realistic 3D maps from scratch or from existing images. You will need Photoshop CS6 or higher and the 3D Map Generator GEO plugin installed on your computer. You can download the plugin from here.
Open Photoshop and create a new document with the size and resolution of your choice. We recommend using a square or landscape format for better results. For this example, we will use a 1000 x 1000 px document with 300 dpi resolution.
Next, you need to draw or import your map shape. You can use the Pen Tool, the Shape Tool, or any other drawing tool to create your own shape. Alternatively, you can import an image of a map or a terrain and use the Magic Wand Tool or the Quick Selection Tool to select the area you want to convert into a 3D map.
For this example, we will use an image of Africa that we downloaded from here. We will use the Magic Wand Tool to select the continent and copy it to a new layer.
Now that you have your map shape ready, it's time to run the 3D Map Generator GEO plugin. Go to Filter > 3D Map Generator > GEO. A new window will open with the plugin interface.
Here you can see a preview of your map in 3D and adjust various settings such as height, depth, texture, color, lighting, and effects. You can also choose from different presets or create your own custom style.
The first thing you need to do is adjust the height and depth of your map. You can use the sliders or enter the values manually in the Height and Depth fields. The higher the values, the more pronounced the relief of your map will be.
You can also use the Height Map option to apply a grayscale image as a height map for your map. This will create more realistic details and variations in your map based on the brightness values of the image. You can use any image as a height map or choose from one of the presets provided by the plugin.
For this example, we will use a height map preset called "Africa" that matches our map shape. We will set the Height to 100% and the Depth to 50%.
The next step is to apply a texture and color to your map. You can use the Texture option to choose from different types of textures such as sand, grass, rock, snow, water, etc. You can also adjust the scale and rotation of the texture with the sliders or enter the values manually in the Scale and Rotation fields.
You can also use the Color option to change the color of your map. You can use the Color Picker tool or enter the hex code in the Color field. You can also adjust the brightness, contrast, saturation, and hue of your color with the sliders or enter the values manually in the Brightness, Contrast, Saturation, and Hue fields.
For this example, we will use a texture called "Sand" and a color code #F0C869 for our map. We will set the Scale to 50% and leave the Rotation at 0%. We will also increase the Brightness to 10% and decrease the Contrast to -10%.
