You will see now 2 of the same Ralink drivers. I thought the last was after the windows 10 update, so i clicked the first. Install and fixed. After i Shut down my comp and restart it, it worked as before.
I have a HP laptop HP Split 13-m010tu x2 PC. Recently i upgraded internal from SSD 64GB to 512GB and i have to reinstall Win 10 Home 64bits. Next, i reinstalled RT3290 driver, i encontered problem and i cannot connect to wifi at all (cannot even detect the SSID). Anway, Ralink RT3290 only can support 2.4GHz wifi, it can't support 5GHz wifi.
My hp cannot detect my wifi at all (but all my smart phones can connect to the SSID). Then one day i happened to power recycle my home router and i notice that my HP laptop able to detect SSID and after i configured, it can detect and connected. I was happy. I started to do some investigation is that my router problem or is RAlink RT3290 wifi adapater problem.
If I use ch 2 or 5, i wll have some stabiliyt issue and may get disconnected easily. Well, I don't think this is interference issue although I am staying in high rise apartment and there are many wifi signal/ssid that I can detect.
Thus if you have Ralink RT3290 connection issue, please try changing your wifi router channel. By default we typically set to auto so that it can do auto sensing. However, it won't change the channel even you power on/off your wifi router if router didn't detect any interference ,so when you power on/off your wifi router, it may stay on the same channel. In case the auto mode is assinging a channel 12 or 13, then it can't even detect the SSID (the situation which i encountered).
With your adapter plugged in please run lsusb and send us the line that is related to the adapter. It will have a part that looks like ID xxxx:xxxx and that gives us the exact chipset for that adapter.
Manufacturers do update the chipset, even within the same model of adapter, so the driver you are working with may or may not be correct. The link you post leads to this which is certainly not a guide for building the driver. It then leads to a lot of digging to even find your adapter info.

The guide I found for that adapter is for kernel 4.13 and only shows ubuntu 16.04 so it is rather out of date and certainly may not be able to be followed without modifying the commands, or possibly even the make file.

It's a budget board. Not too many bells and whistles on those. I have had very good luck with the cheap dongles for Bluetooth and WiFi I get on Ebay. Awesome everyone above gave some solid choices of what they know works!
I went for an uppity Intel based card as I wanted the wave 2 features of 802.11ac in addition to Bluetooth 5. This more modern Wi-Fi will be useful for a long time before Intel or somebody comes up with a better controller supporting 802.11ax along with Bluetooth etc.
Sounds like nice hardware. For my desktops in my home and honestly at work. I am still running ethernet. I only have one desktop at home in my workshop connected by Wireless and use a dual band AC dongle for that. I don't have any Bluetooth 5 on anything yet. I mostly only use BT to connect mice, keyboards an Game Pads. I like the Broadcom BT 4.0 dongles they are cheap, reliable and plug and play as the drives are already in Windows 10.
Recently I have been having trouble with my wireless wifi adapter. I have tried reinstalling the driver by uninstalling it and letting my laptop install it automatically. Then manually. I have disabled and re-enabled it. I have changed settings on it which worked for about a day before it kept happening again. Originally it only disabled when I played a game on my laptop but I found it happens on multiple applications and now it does not even function outside of them anymore like it did originally. I am using Windows 10 and have an Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-10750H CPU @ 2.60GHz 2.59 GHz. I have tried restoring my computer to a previous point but it was not far enough back. I do not know what to do anymore. Can anyone please assist me? My college starts in a week and I need to have it working by then.
