Soto preface, I'm relatively new to Dropbox, and only got it for a couple work gigs. But the moment it had access to my computer, it started creating a backup I think? Which, with only 2 GB of Dropbox Basic storage, there was no way it could do that with the 200+GB of stuff on my computer. So naturally it filled up pretty quickly, and I paused the sync.
At this point I try to free up some space, so I go to the dropbox folder in my Mac, select the attempted backup of my computer, and delete it. I think it was then that the folders disappeared, but I didn't notice until I was in the Dropbox system preferences trying to make it stop creating automatic backups...tried to deselect the Desktop, Downloads, and Documents folders and save, but then a message popped up saying the folders couldn't be located...
So now this morning comes around, and the folders(Desktop, Downloads, Documents) are back on my computer, along with all my personal folders inside them, but all of my actual DOCUMENTS...all my pdfs of taxes, all pictures, work documents.. are just GONE. Can anyone help me out? where did all my actual files go and how do I get them back??

First off, thank you so much for helping out! None of the files were in the Deleted files page, and I found a zip file of my downloads folder in the trash, ...moved it to my desktop, but opening it revealed it to be a copy of what I found on my computer this morning...all the folders, but all of them are empty. I put some screenshots here with different folders selected as examples..no files in any of them..in fact aside from a couple screenshots I took earlier today. This is how all the folders in my Documents and Desktop tabs look as well..empty!
Update: I found a handful of folders in my Desktop folder that still have files! It's very strange tho..it's as if everything that hadn't synced with Dropbox yet by the time I messed with it got deleted, but whatever small amount of files HAD synced got saved...
I initially searched through Finder and came up with nothing, just the My Mac folder that has all the missing files.., BUT I decided just to look in the Trash and lo and behold, a hidden My Mac with a different icon appeared..I attached a screenshot of after I dragged it back to my desktop. I opened it up and everything is there! All the files, everything! So many thanks for helping me find this. This is a great weight off my shoulders going forward.
I do have one final question! Now that I've found this folder, where is it's proper home space on my computer? Does it go somewhere in Macintosh HD? Someplace else? Basically how do I overwrite/consolidate the folders with missing data currently in my Finder with these new/old folders that have everything?
After using Dropbox yesterday my desktop folder and download folder disappeared from finder on my Macbook Pro. When I start using Dropbox it started to sync and I stopped it, emptied my trash and deleted the files in the sync folder. After this my desktop and download folder where gone in Finder. I searched in hidden files but no desktop of download folders anymore. When going to
dropbox.com I see the folders there and have no idea how to get them back to my HD on my Mac. Please let me know how to get the folders back on my Mac. Thank you
CGS is terrifying; CGS is liberating. To appreciate CGS in all its myriad forms is to let go, to cede control, to find the pleasure in the pain of existence and succumb to it wholly. That, my friends, is crispy-gone soggy. And it is everything.
Opened Evernote app as normal on windows and was asked to update and after the update, all my notes - for past 8 years - are gone. Upgraded to Personal to see if that will load the notes but no luck. How can I retrieve my notes? Please Help!
Hi. Guessing that you logged in with incorrect information and inadvertently created a new empty account. Try logging out and back in again very carefully. If you're still stuck, use the 'forgot password' link at Evernote.com.
I too lost access to my data after up date. I tried numerous times to use forgot password request. My problem I think is when I set up my email account I spelled "verizion " instead of "verizon". Any password update is going to an account that I cannot access. This I believe will require someone to manually fix.
This thread is for someone who can't see any notes - the usual explanation there being that they accidentally logged in with the wrong details and created a new account. You have a separate thread where I thought you could see notes but were losing information, which is not the same thing...

With the recent web UI update I can't find a way to search for an athlete or segment. These 2 features are gone forever or I can expect to have them back? I think they are essential to have and it is not nice to remove them without any communication.
They moved the athlete search, but it is still there. You just have to click on the magnifying glass symbol near the top left side of the page. It will pull up a search option pulldown menu to search for Athletes, Clubs, or Segments. See the link below for details:
@Crone_t - When you click on the "maps" button in the app (second from the left on the bottom), you have to look toward the top of the map screen to see the button that days "Routes" with a little down arrow. Click on the word "Routes" and it should cause a thing to pop up at the bottom of the screen where you can select between Routes and Segments. Click on the segments radio button and you should start to see segments on the map. Zoom in to see more of them. Also use the buttons at the top to adjust the length, elevation and surface type for the segments to further narrow them down.
@DerekJ - It is under the "maps" tab. Once you open that, you have to click on the "segments" button across the top and also make sure you have the correct activity type selected on the left side of the screen.
Sometimes I get question if I want to open last tabs, but lately WindowsUpdates are rebooting my machine and then all my tabs are lost and no question if I want to recover them. (I had been doing research for several days with 50 tabs open)
Yes, there is a manual way to restore all closed tabs at once by using the reopen closed window feature by right-clicking on the New tab or on the titlebar and clicking Reopen closed window in the Context Menu.
@NiklasE Thanks for reaching out. To confirm, were you switched to the new version of Microsoft Edge after the Windows Update, or had you already been using it? If the former, had you been using the "Set tabs aside" feature? And if the latter, what version have you been using? (You can check it here: edge://settings/help).
@Deleted Hi Fawkes. I saw this when browsing for a solution. Do you know the solution to reopen tabs that were closed after edge updated? They disappear from the "reopen closed tabs" button. This isn't to do with a windows reboot by the way. Thank you.
@NL1232155 Welcome to the community! The MSFT Edge Insider forums primarily focus on issues that users of our preview channels encounter, but we're always happy to help either way. Can you please confirm:
If signed in to my account does this settings auto-propagate to all my computers or I need to watch out when installing new machines? (I use a couple of different machines and test newer Windows 10 builds also on regular basis switching installations quite often. )
I just now restarted my computer after a Windows update ant both my tabs and browser history in Edge are gone. The option to open recently closed tabs was greyed out - it was the first thing I checked. I don't know which version of Edge I was using, but I'm guessing it was updated as well, because I get a prompt under the address bar to press "Complete setup" or "Maybe later".
@rokasklydzia10 The issue should be resolved now! It may happen one last time as the fix takes hold, but then you should be good to go. It looks like you may also be using an outdated version of Microsoft Edge, so I'd recommend updating to the latest version in order to get the fix: edge://settings/help
