Insteadof direct rewards from leveling up, as the level progression worked previously, each level earns the player five stars to spend on a tiered system for rewards. Tiers must be unlocked in-order, either through leveling or buying enough items with stars from the previous tiers.
This system gives the players control over what cosmetic rewards they'll earn, but prioritizes paying players. Players who do not buy the pass may still purchase rewards with stars, but are limited to the rewards on the far-left of the screen (four for each tier). Because of this, players who do not buy the pass must level up in increments of 10 to unlock new tiers, while paying players can get through tiers faster and have more choices.
Once players have purchased all items from the first seven tiers, the Bonus tier unlocks. Players may then buy the special season dragons for 50 stars each. Once all three have been purchased, you receive the final dragon.
The Dragon Pass includes a series of weekly quests, the completion of which allows players to gain significantly more XP than they would in a normal match. The weekly quests are released every week until the conclusion of the Dragon Pass, or until all the weekly quests have been released, should the Season last for longer than expected.
The Dragon Pass also includes lore panels, which unlock as the weeks progress. Thus far, the lore panels have focussed on the new classes added by the seasons, being the Stormraiser and the Thornweaver for Season 1 and Season 2, respectively.
