Ivetried installing the Microsoft hot fix "Windows cannot connect to printer" error message when you try to create a Point and Print connection to a remote printer from a Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2-based client computer - Microsoft Support but that does not work. It says:

Have you tried deploying the printer via GPP instead of manually installing it on PCs? I used to run into some issues like you are showing when I manually installed, but have had none since switching to deployment.

Your post pointed me in the right direction and it ended up being the exact same issue for our Brother printer I had deployed out on Server 2016 via Group Policy. I manually installed the Type3 driver and then it worked perfectly. Thank you!

Reason it does it- The driver package is all ready installed but is having an issue within windows to be used/accessed.

How to fix it- you have to remove the driver package before you try and reinstall the printer.

Go into your control panel- Administrative tools- Print management

Go into the ALL DRIVERS (Right panel) within the print management and remove the driver pack (center panel) for that printer by right clicking and selecting remove driver pack.

Once you remove it you should be able to re install the printer.

I had this issue and tried all the registry changes along with all fixes i found on google and nothing worked for me. i installed the newest driver from the website and restarted the machine and it is now working

I'm trying to add a new network printer on ubuntu 16.04 LTS. After setting it's IP address it recognises that a printer is available (192.168.1.100/9100), but when I click Forward I get a CUPS server error: 'server-error-internal-error'. Can anyone help?

I was able to work around the problem by setting up the printer using the CUPS web interface. I pointed my browser at localhost:631, which gave me the web interface. Then selected "Adding Printers and Classes", then "Add Printer".

I don't know why attempting to install the printer through the ubuntu Printers settings resulted in the 'server-error-internal-error', but this method seems to have worked fine. If anyone knows what the root cause of the error is I'd still love to know...

Just bought my mother a new iMac. Trying to add the printer through wi-fi. Two other computers are connected and working. The printer shows up in the add printer section as well as the fax. Was able to add the fax portion just fine. Every time I try to add the printer I have to choose a driver. I pick the one that aligns with the printer and then I get a message. An error occurred while trying to add the selected device. Epson WF-2750. If I try to print I can select from nearby printers and it attempts to prepare and then says an error occurred while trying to add the selected printer.

The Epson WF-2750 is listed in About AirPrint - Apple Support as a model supporting the driverless AirPrint technology. This means that it can be used without having to install additional drivers, provided that the printer and the Mac computer(s) are connected to the same network (Wi-Fi router). Printing from an iPhone or iPad on the same network would be possible as well (without an extra app).

Power off the Wi-Fi router, the printer, the Mac computer(s), and all other devices/computers. Wait two to three minutes. Power on the router. Wait two to three minutes. Power on the printer. Wait a minute or two. Power on the Mac computer(s). Finally, power on all other devices/computers.

I have been attempting to set-up an HP Deskjet F4400 Series printer to my MacBook Pro. I get all the way through to "ADD" and get the following message: "An error occurred while trying to add the selected printer" "Successful-ok-ignored-or-substituted-attributes.

I have followed all the instructions for resetting the printing system and reinstalling (multiple times). I get all the way through the process, select my printer, and just when it looks like it's going to work, i get the same message again:

Hello.

I am having a problem adding a new printer with KDE. CUPS daemon is started, and KDE printing service (print-manager) to. So, when I go to Settings->Printers->"Click here to add a new printer", I can see the printer, but all fields come gray and an error message comes up (Add Failed to group devices: 'The name org.fedoraproject.Config.Printing was not provided by any .service files'):

What can i do?

If you try to install the printer on a Windows XP SP1-based client by using the Add Printer Wizard or by using the printer share name from the \\PrintServerName\PrinterShareName location, you receive the following error message:

If you use the Add Printer Wizard to try to install the printer on a Windows Server 2003-based client, you receive the following error message when you click Finish to complete the printer installation:

Unable to Install Printer. The printer driver is not compatible with a policy enabled on your computer that blocks Windows NT 4.0 drivers. If you want to use this driver, contact your system administrator about disabling this policy.

This issue occurs if the printer driver that is installed on the print server is a third-party printer driver. You can't install a shared network printer that has a third-party printer driver locally on a Windows XP SP1-based computer if you're a regular user or a member of the Power Users group. Windows XP SP1 doesn't enable regular users or members of the Power Users group to install third-party drivers. In Windows XP SP1, only the following people have permission to install a third-party driver:

If the Windows XP SP1-based computer is joined to a Microsoft Windows NT 4.0-based domain, regular users and members of the Power Users group can install third-party printer drivers to the Windows XP SP1-based client computer. You may experience issues in installing a third-party printer driver on a Windows XP SP1-based computer if the Windows XP SP1-based computer is part of a workgroup or part of a Microsoft Windows 2000-based domain.

In Windows Server 2003, you can't install a shared network printer locally if the printer driver that is installed on the print server uses third-party kernel-mode printer drivers. A policy setting in Windows Server 2003 prevents users from installing printers that use third-party kernel-mode print drivers.

To resolve this issue, modify the Group Policy settings for the Group Policy object (GPO) that has printer policies defined for the domain users on the domain controller. To do this, use one of the following methods.

Make sure that the output of the NsLookup command contains the correct fully qualified domain name (FQDN) of the print server. If it is incorrect, you must contact the network administrator to resolve the DNS issue.

When you disable the Point and Print Restrictions policy that is located under User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Control Panel\Printers, users can use the Point and Print functionality to select any shared printer to which they have access.

This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. If your hardware came with a Microsoft Windows x64 edition already installed, your hardware manufacturer provides technical support and assistance for the Windows x64 edition. In this case, your hardware manufacturer provides support because a Windows x64 edition was included with your hardware. Your hardware manufacturer might have customized the Windows x64 edition installation by using unique components. Unique components might include specific device drivers or might include optional settings to maximize the performance of the hardware. Microsoft will provide reasonable-effort assistance if you need technical help with a Windows x64 edition. However, you might have to contact your manufacturer directly. Your manufacturer is best qualified to support the software that your manufacturer installed on the hardware. If you purchased a Windows x64 edition such as a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 x64 edition separately, contact Microsoft for technical support.

Thank you in advance for reading. I've read a few different posts on here about adding printers using a script and before I did so I came up with my own to add about 50-60 printers to a bunch of machines. It is as follows:

It'll continue to add them no problem I was just wondering if this was caused by the amount of printers I was adding at once that kind of "bogs" it down and it's nothing to worry about or if I could script it better to run more efficiently.

I'm with @RobertHammen put a sleep 1 after each printer add.

It's probably just kicking off some post add task in the background each time and then your trying to add another printer well before it's finished and then another and another and so on...
