BetweenMay 2024 and March 18, 2025, Google Maps Platform will update thedefault map style for the following APIs and SDKs. To confirm compatibility withyour maps experience, you can opt in to update to the new map style earlier, depending on the product you use. For more information, see the followingsections.
Starting March 21, 2024, if your app uses map IDs, you can update to the latestversion of cloud-based maps styling. With cloud-based maps styling, you can preview and opt in to the latest updated map styles with customizationoptions to align with your specific requirements. For more information, seeCloud-based maps styling.
On March 18, 2025, the default map style will update to the latest version, witha new color palette, improved map experiences, and better usability. Your customstyles will sit on top of the default map style.
Google Maps Platform will release new versions for each of the APIs and SDKswith the updated default map style according to the schedule in the followingtable. If your app doesn't use map IDs, you can choose these new versions (orsubsequent) in order to use the new default map style.

The State Fire Marshal is mandated to classify lands within State Responsibility Areas into Fire Hazard Severity Zones (FHSZ). Fire Hazard Severity Zones fall into one of the following classifications:
The California laws that require Fire Hazard Severity Zones include California Public Resources Code 4201-4204, California Code of Regulations Title 14, Section 1280 and California Government Code 51175-89.
The Fire Hazard Severity Zone (FHSZ) maps are developed using a science-based and field-tested model that assigns a hazard score based on the factors that influence fire likelihood and fire behavior. Many factors are considered such as fire history, existing and potential fuel (natural vegetation), predicted flame length, blowing embers, terrain, and typical fire weather for the area. There are three levels of hazard in the State Responsibility Areas: moderate, high, and very high.
You can enter your address to locate your property on a map showing Fire Hazard Severity Zones. It is your responsibility to prepare yourself, your family, and your home for when wildfire strikes. Creating and maintaining defensible space and hardening your home by retrofitting it with ignition-resistant or noncombustible materials to protect against the threat of flying embers, direct flame contact, and radiant heat exposure will dramatically increase your safety and the survivability of your home.

Floods occur naturally and can happen almost anywhere. They may not even be near a body of water, although river and coastal flooding are two of the most common types. Heavy rains, poor drainage, and even nearby construction projects can put you at risk for flood damage.
Flood maps show how likely it is for an area to flood. Any place with a 1% chance or higher chance of experiencing a flood each year is considered to have a high risk. Those areas have at least a one-in-four chance of flooding during a 30-year mortgage.
Flood maps help mortgage lenders determine insurance requirements and help communities develop strategies for reducing their risk. The mapping process helps you and your community understand your flood risk and make more informed decisions about how to reduce or manage your risk.
Updates to flood maps are a collaboration between your community and FEMA. Every community that participates in the National Flood Insurance Program has a floodplain administrator who works with FEMA during the mapping process.
Once the data analysis is done, preliminary flood maps will be available for review. Before your community decides to adopt the maps, you have 90 days to submit technical data to support an appeal to the map.
Academic Maps serve as a guide to help undergraduate students stay on track to degree completion. The following maps are organized by academic year and are grouped by category, not academic major. Visit the undergraduate programs page for a breakdown of academic majors and their associated concentrations.
Last year recorded 162,000 conflict related deaths. This was the second highest toll in the past 30 years, with the conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza accounting for nearly three-quarters of deaths. Ukraine represented more than half, recording 83,000 conflict deaths, with estimates of at least 33,000 for Palestine up to April 2024. In the first four months of 2024, conflict related deaths globally amounted to 47,000. If the same rate continues for the rest of this year, it would be the highest number of conflict deaths since the Rwandan genocide in 1994.
Global Peace Index 2022 results show that the average level of global peacefulness deteriorated by 0.03%. Although slight, this is the eleventh deterioration in peacefulness in the last fourteen years, with 90 countries improving, 71 deteriorating and two remaining stable in peacefulness, highlighting that countries tend to deteriorate much faster than they improve.
Degree Maps are term-by-term sample course schedules based on the 2023-2024 Undergraduate Catalog. On each Degree Map, the milestones listed to the right of each term are designed to keep students on track to graduate in four years. Students should use the sample schedules as a general guide to aid them in building a full schedule each term. To see additional information and course descriptions, go to the Undergraduate Catalog.

ArcGIS Field Maps is a powerful and versatile mobile app solution used to complete a variety of field workflows. Leveraging the power of a map, Field Maps enhances situational awareness, enables simple and advanced capture capabilities, and can record and share where mobile workers have gone, all within a single location-aware mobile app.
Now you can add info elements to provide supplemental information and/or needed instruction when editing forms. Content in an info element is formatted in markdown, and you can include dynamic information drawn from fields and expressions in the form.
When creating new layers for new and existing maps in Field Maps Designer, you can now choose a coordinate system. This is important for high-accuracy data collection projects where you need to store captured features in a local, projected coordinate system.
Maps can have many layers and tables. Clicking Manage content from the Add Layers dropdown, you can drag and drop layers and tables to re-order them, remove layers, create new group layers, and rename map layers and tables. When in the managed content experience, layers will display an icon representing their geometry type to help you make decisions when changing layer order.
The February update includes additional support for managing lists in forms. With existing lists, you can use a CSV file to either add or replace the list of valid values. In addition, the list of values will show frequency counts on list items.
With this update, you can disable or enable use of the markup tool from the App settings tab in Field Maps Designer. If existing markup is stored on the device, you can turn markup layers on or off even if the Markup tool is disabled.
When collecting linear features, the cumulative length of segments captured are displayed while collecting the geometry. The measurement value now includes the length of proposed geometry (distance from the last vertex captured to the target location).
Following these updates, we are continuing to further ArcGIS Field Maps with exciting new capabilities coming this summer and in late 2024. As we approach each release, there will be several beta and tech preview opportunities where you can test capabilities ahead of their general availability.
We greatly appreciate your feedback and ideas. If you are looking for new capabilities in ArcGIS Field Maps, please post your ideas to the Esri Community Ideas site. Here you can also upvote ideas and comment on those posted by others.
