Orcas are large, fish-like aquatic mammals with black and white blubbery skin, and are part of the dolphin family. They have different texture variants depending on the biome they spawn in. They also have similar animations and AI to the dolphin.

Orcas are neutral towards the player until damaged, in which case all nearby orcas will attack the player as well. It is not recommended to anger them as they have tremendous attack strength, health and speed. Furthermore, they will jump out of the water to attack prey and enemies, and break ice to reach them. When near Orcas, players will receive the Orca's Might effect which increases attack speed. This gives the player a massive combat advantage, but it is easy to accidently attack the orca whilst fighting other mobs, as they will zoom around players similarly to dolphins. Orcas also make great allies as they naturally attack and can easily dispatch common marine threats such as drowned, guardians and even Elder guardians. They also have various other prey items.Current Prey

I've been playing MineCraft for a very long time. I started playing when I was a kid back in 2011 and have always had ideas and suggestions but none am I more passionate than this one. With the fairly recent 1.13 release Mojang added Dolphins to MineCraft. Never has my idea been closer to fruition. With this update it gave life to the mainly dull ocean biome. This was amazing for me because with the addition of dolphins it seemed like with just a few model changes and code changes that Orcas could be in there as well. I really hope that this is the right sub reddit to post in because my MineCraft dreams would be complete with the addition of Orcas lol. I have taken the liberty of trying to model a Orca that could mabye be used. It's nothing spectacular, just a recreation of the already implemented dolphin but with a texture change and the removal of the nose. I had used it in a MineCraft mod I made a few months back and posted on Minecraft Forum. The mod is nothing crazy, no natural spawning and they are currently land mobs but I wanted to try my hand at it in hops that it shows my dedication to this idea.

I was thinking that they could spawn naturally in the deep ocean and that they would hunt the other ocean mobs because Orcas are known to eat everything in the ocean and they are the top of the food chain(even known to hunt sharks!) They would spawn in every ocean biome because they are found in every part of the ocean around the world! The drops for the Orcas would be raw fish with maybe even some lucky drops such as raw pufferfish. You might think Orcas dropping puffer fish is weird but dolphins (which Orcas are dolphins) have been known to eat pufferfish intentionally to get high off of their toxin.

Health:

Orcas are the kings of the sea but that does not mean that they are aggressive creatures. There has never been a recorded attack of a wild Orca on a human being. The only attacks that have ever happened are the attacks at SeaWorld where they are kept in captivity when they should be wild. This is the reason that I think Orcas should behavior very similar to dogs where they are passive creatures until they are attacked.

Tamability?

Only a thought but I was thinking that you could maybe tame Orcas with raw fish and be able to ride them. This is obviously based on the real life Orcas in Seaworld(yes, I know sad but MineCraft is only a videogame lol). So taming Orcas is not too far out of an idea. The fact that the only real way to get across oceans fast is with a boat so I thought it might be an interesting idea to have a ride-able mob in the ocean. Please let me know your thoughts and if you have any suggestions to further the development of this idea please let me know!

I think some more details are necessary. Like how much health this thing has, how much damage it does, if it's hostile to the player, etc.
It seems interesting tho. So support for now I guess? I think if the mob is supposed to be potentially dangerous restricting its spawn might be necessary, as I wouldn't enjoy getting killed by an orca when I'm trying to swim to places early game.

I agree, more biome diversity would be fun! I think they could implement orcas as an extra-large reskinned dolphin spawning in icebergs. Whales are closely related to dolphins so it might work, and you wouldn't have to worry about implementing special uses for them.

Thanks for the reply! Yeah it wouldn't be a hard addition at all! I mean for the model all you'd have to do is remove the bottle nose from the dolphin. And also Orcas are dolphins as well! Their name can be misleading but they are just big dolphins!

I was just throwing that idea out there. It just thought of a good addition to me because of the fact that the only way getting across oceans is the plain boats that have been around since early Beta. If they weren't tamable I would love to see an overhaul of the boats in Minecraft!

I would love to see orcas in Minecraft too. With the addition of orcas I think there should be sharks. Although this is not true in real life I think sharks should attack you when you get near them. Also if your health is really low, sharks will come to you from a further distance. If you tamed an orca it would keep sharks away just like cats keep away creepers.

Two thoughts about the discussion so far. 1. I don't think that any additions to Minecraft would have any noticeable impact on the real world. 2. The discussion has kinda shifted away from Orcas into sharks! Lol

I myself have also wished for Orcas to be added to minecraft as they are my favorite aquatic animal. Ive actually made an Orca suggestion in the past on a different account, and so I fully suport your idea. One thing I would like to add is that I feel the stats you gave the Orca are far too weak. An Orca only having 15 health would mean that the player has more health than it. A human being more durable than an Orca is very ridiculous. I feel that the Orca should at least have 40 health (same as an enderman), but honestly it should be even more. Same thing with the damage you gave it. 5 damage on normal is not much considering its coming from a 10,000 pound beast. It should at least be 7 (again same as enderman), but preferably even more. Maybe it could be given an attack where it can grab and pull you under the water in an attempt to drown you. Anyway I still completely agree with your suggestion, its just that if Orcas were added to Minecraft I would hope that they would not be underpowered. Also an idea for how the taming could possibly work is maybe it could be a one use per tame kind of thing. So say you give the Orca some fish. It will then allow you to ride on it for say 5-10 minutes then it throws you off until you give it more fish.

Do you guys agree that it would be awesome to have Killer Whales added to the game? I feel that minecraft is lacking on large mobs and due to their recent work on the oceans, it got me thinking about adding Killer Whales. They could normally be passive unless provoked and would deal very high damage with alot of health. They could spawn in deep ocean biomes and be very rare as seeing these beasts often would not really make much sense. These cannot just be the polar bears of the sea though, they need a purpose. They can drop something speical but because mojang has recently been careful about "animal cruelty" they may not want killer whales to drop anything. Instead we can possibly tame them with alot of fish and then ride them across the ocean! Mojang can not call riding a Killer Whale animal abuse like they did with dolphins as in real life a Killer Whale can easily carry a human on its back, so this seems perfect. Please tell me what you guys think about adding Killer Whales to minecraft and feel free to suggest things that would add on to this mob.

The difficulty with these as a MC addition is that they fill (roughly speaking) the same ecological niche as dolphins in RL, making differentiating the two quite difficult in the simplified realm of MC.

I see what your saying but I dont think that Killer Whales would bring any problems. First of all, killer whales are not endangered and players wouldnt be encouraged to kill them as it would be a passive mob which only attacks if you attack first (similar to the polar bear). Like you said, we have sea turtles (an endangered speicies). If sea turtles can exist in Minecraft then Orcas can exist too. And yes, interacting with an Orca in real life would be extremely dangerous, but you can say the same thing about Polar Bears. Also, its not like a kid is going to play minecraft, see an orca, play around with it, and then try that in real life. Simply being able to see an Orca in person is hard to do. About dolphins, Orcas and dolphins do have similarities but they would definetly be two very different mobs. I dont really see that as much of an issue. Anyway, Thank you for your feedback!!

Alright, I can explain the differences between the mobs. The dolphin mobs purpose is to lead you to buried treasure. The Orca cannot do this. The Orca would be more like an ocean horse. While we do not know the dolphin mobs spawn rate yet, the Orca would be much rarer to see. The Orca would be much stronger and much larger in size to the dolphin. They would have different behaviors as well. Yes, they would both spawn in groups but the Orca would act as much more of a predator than the dolphin. It would hunt ocean mobs such as squids, dolphins (yes, it would eat the mob im comparing it to), and maybe even guardians. It would be awesome watching a group of Orcas go and raid a guardian temple! I think they would be two very different mobs.
