Does anyone know if version 4.0 will be compatible with the older grey TI Npire Calculators with black cradles for Navigator?

Yes, we know that OS 4.0 will never be compatible with the Nspire
Clickpad and Touchpad. OS 3.9 is the last update for those models.

The OS's footprint only grows over time, as a result of new features
being added, so future OS versions are unlikely to work on the Nspire
Clickpad and Touchpad either.
Like OS 3.9, OS 4.0 is mostly an anti-Ndless release, bringing
relatively little in the way of new features.
To date, there is no way to execute arbitrary native code on OS 4.0,
which would allow both downgrading from OS 4.0 to an older version and
making Ndless 4.0.
