Gampopa’s Instructions on the Creation and Completion Stages (part 2) with Dorlöp Rinpoche
Oct. 3, 2025 Friday kl. 18-21      Live Remote Teaching

All are welcome! Part 1 teaching can be found at https://youtu.be/uHc8dFKn7Sc

To enter the gate of the Vajrayana, Gampopa taught the methods of the two stages—generation and completion. For those who desire to achieve the Completion Stage, the Generation Stage is taught to be like the steps of a staircase. The meditation on the Generation Stage consists of six topics—divisions, nature, definition, purpose, measure of stability, and result. Dorlöp Rinpoche will explain them with his experiential understanding and conducive illustrations. The purpose is to successively replace our ordinary perception with a stable, vivid visualization of the deity; understanding all forms, sounds, and thoughts as being of illusory nature like a rainbow, an echo, and expressions of primordial wisdom; and realizing all phenomena being merely concepts, empty of inherent existence; so that we can experience the true nature of our mind being uncontrived and boundless.

Venue: Ratnashri Meditation Center (Friggavägen 11, Lidingö, telephone 08-765 5878)

Fee: 200 kr including text.

Registration: Email to in...@ratnashri.se; and deposit fee to Plusgiro: 1287806-2 or pay on site.

Dorlöp Rinpoche (Dr. Hun Lye) grew up in a Buddhist home in Malaysia. From a young age, he studied and practiced Buddhism with teachers of various traditions. He met his first Tibetan teacher in USA when he was an undergraduate student. After earning a doctorate degree in Buddhist Studies at University of Virginia and teaching for ten years in American academic institutions, Dr. Lye left academia to devote his energy fully to Dharma work. In 2013, he was appointed as a Dorje Lopön (vajra-master) of the Drikung Kagyu Lineage by H.H. Drikung Kyabgon Thinley Lhundup and was formally enthroned and charged with the responsibility of transmitting the teachings and practices of the lineage that he has himself received and practiced well. Then he was sent by His Holiness to visit and teach at Drikung centers in South America. Dorlöp Rinpoche teaches in Asheville where he is founder and spiritual director at Urban Dharma North Carolina and Drikung Dharmakirti International Sangha. He also teaches on a regular basis over the internet to groups in Asia, North and South America. More information at https://udharmanc.com/

In the Drikung Kagyu lineage, Marpa’s Lu Jong Yoga exercises have been practiced in their original, unaltered form for more than a thousand years. Lu means body, and Jong means training or practice. Lu Jong can be translated as physical exercises. Lu Jong helps to keep the body and mind healthy, balanced, and in harmony, especially in difficult times. Following his master's instructions closely, the student Kunga wrote down the commentary on the twenty Lu Jong exercises. This enabled the preservation of their profound power. Physical exercises and breathing techniques can be learned through observation. However, it is recommended to receive instructions from a teacher. His Holiness Drikung Kyabgon Thinley Lhundup personally gave Drubpon Kunsang permission to make these Marpa Lu Jong exercises available to the public.

In each session, we will go through five exercises in detail. Benefits of each exercise will also be explained. Wear comfortable clothing and bring your own yoga mat.

Sundays Study Group: The Jewel Ornament of Liberation by Gampopa, kl. 13:30-15:00

Dates: Oct. 5, 12, 19, 26; Nov. 2, 9, 16, 23, 30; Dec. 7

Venue: Ratnashri Meditation Center, Friggavägen 11, Lidingö (Telephone: 08-7655878)

Donations to support our Dharma activities are welcome.

We are happy to offer this opportunity to study this great work together. All are welcome. No pre-requisite is needed. The Jewel Ornament of Liberation is a masterwork of Tibetan Buddhism. For more than eight centuries, this text has provided a complete foundation for Buddhist study and practice. It includes teachings on Buddha-nature, finding a spiritual master, impermanence, karma, the cultivation of bodhicitta, the development of the six perfections, the ten Bodhisattva bhumis, Buddhahood, and the activities of a buddha.

Gampopa (1074-1153 C.E.) was fully accomplished in the teachings and practice of Buddhism, the philosophy taught by Shakyamuni Buddha circa 560 B.C.E. Gampopa studied the sutra system of training in the Kadampa lineage and obtained tantra training from the great yogi Milarepa. Because he himself thus embodied the complete form of Buddhism, Lord Gampopa successfully established complete Buddhism in Tibet. His lineage of disciples pervaded the whole of Jambudvipa and became the crown jewel of all Buddhism. Gampopa completely dispelled the darkness of confusion and reconciled all misunderstanding between the sutra and tantra systems. Actually, it was as if the Buddha himself had manifested again in human form. Therefore, Gampopa's teachings are recognized as being wholly pure and precious. In the Jewel Ornament of Liberation, you will find a complete form of Buddhism. It systematically lays out the path that must be traveled—no more, no less. Gampopa said, “For anyone who wishes to see me, studying The Jewel Ornament of Liberation and the Precious Garland of the Excellent Path is the same as meeting me.” We will first watch the teaching videos by the translator of this book Khenchen Konchog Gyaltshen Rinpoche and then we discuss afterwards. Bring your own copy if you have. Otherwise, you can borrow a copy at the Center.

Tsa Lung is an important method in the Drikung Kagyu lineage to harmonize the body and the mind. Through this practice, we balance the three humors (wind, bile, and phlegm), elements, channels, energy centers (chakras), winds and vital essences. Tsa Lung is a natural Tibetan healing system to prevent the three basic disorders and the four hundred and four disease types. It consists of stress management and calming exercises. Yogi Milarepa said, “Tsa Lung is the best self-healing exercise, both physically and mentally.” Tsa are the subtle channels found in the physical body of every human being, while Lung means the wind that flows in them. So Tsa Lung is a technique consisting of various yoga and breathing exercises that work with both the body and the breath (and with its retention known as vase-breath) together with visualization, meditation, and mantra recitation. There are many practices that develop our body and unlock energy in the chakras, but they do not go as deep as Tsa Lung. Just physical movements are not enough; to reach the subtle places in our body, we have to apply special techniques in combination with the breath and its retention. It is very advantageous to combine meditation with Tsa Lung practice since meditation can help us to transform our mind, to change our negative habitual pattern, to awake our innate love and compassion, relieve mental anxiety and stress. For Dharma practitioners, Tsa Lung is most effective when it is done within the framework of Lord Jigten Sumgön’s Fivefold Path of Mahamudra. That is, the cultivation of bodhicitta, yidam practice (Vajrayogini), guru yoga, mahamudra and dedication. In this way, not only can Tsa Lung improve health, we can at the same time accumulate merits and wisdom as well as making progress on the Dharma path and benefit all sentient beings.

The part 1 course will emphasize the foundation of Tsa Lung both on the theoretic background to the exercises and on experiencing the exercises. There will be six meetings for the course and the following topics will be covered:
1. Nine breathings and vase breathing exercises;
2. Opening chakras downward and upward, and wind breaking exercises;
3. Seven harmonizing exercises;
4. Exercises that balance the three humors.

Shravasti Meditation Silent Retreat
April 18 - 19. 2026  Sat. – Sun. kl. 9-17

Venue: Ratnashri Meditation Center, Friggavägen 11, Lidingö (Telephone: 08-7655878)

Instructor: Zabrina Leung (a certified teacher, certified by H.H. Drikung Kyabgon Thinley Lhundup)

Yogi Milarepa said, “Through meditation, you gain all knowledge.” Meditation is the key to love and compassion. It can relieve mental illnesses such as depression as well as reduce anxiety and stress. Meditation can be compared to a lasso that captures the mind. The Shravasti Meditation curriculum, according to the Anapanasati Sutra (The Sutra of the Mindfulness of Breathing) in combination with yogic exercises and meditation, that was taught extensively by H.H. Drikung Kyabgon Thinley Lhundup. This extremely profound mindfulness of breathing in-and-out meditation method in sixteen steps was first practiced by Buddha after realizing that ascetic practices would not yield fruitful results. He then calmly practiced Anapana and consumed food, through which he attained buddhahood. At that time, Anapana meditation, regarded as the essence of Buddhist practice, was the main practice among all Buddha’s followers. In sixteen steps based on the four foundations of mindfulness, this method guides us to develop greater awareness of the body, sensations, mind, and phenomena through the interaction of our breath. In this silent weekend retreat, we will introduce the basic steps and then primarily familiarize ourselves with the basic silent sitting meditation with breath observation in order to gain direct personal experience, accompanied by simple yoga exercises and walking meditation.  Wear comfortable clothing and bring your own preferred meditation cushion.

Fee: 500 kr including vegetarian lunches. Anapanasati Sutra will be sent electronically to all participants prior to the course. If you need a printed copy, please order it during registration, printing cost is 100 kr.

Registration: Email to in...@ratnashri.se by April 16; and deposit fee to Plusgiro: 1287806-2 or pay on site.

Gape Lama: Public Talk, Dharma Teachings, Dharma Practices, and Retreat

May 8-17, 2026

Mark your calendar, program comes in the next newsletter.

Gape Lama (Lama Thubten Nima) was born in 1965 and at the age of fourteen, he had the good fortune to receive instruction on the effects of virtuous and harmful actions by the great yogi Tamga, and completed the four hundred thousand accumulations of the preliminary practices (ngöndro) according to the Buddhist Yangzab terma.

As his family has long been associated with Gar Monastery prior to the Cultural Revolution, Gape Lama made great efforts to travel to the Gar Monastery where he received refuge ordination from His Eminence Garchen Rinpoche. He then received full monastic ordination and the bodhisattva vow from the great siddha Karma Norbu, and was admitted to the Gar Monastery where, he trained in the ritual practices of the tantras of Old and New Schools and other diverse religious activities. He was selected for special training at Lho Lungkar Monastery, including the Eight Heruka Sadhanas, the Embodiment of the Masters’ Realization, Vajrakilaya, and Essence of Great Bliss. He served as chant master and, later, as disciplinarian of the Gar monastery. Thereafter, he received teachings from many of the great living Buddhist masters including Dzogchen Trekchod and Thogal from Khenpo Munsel Rinpoche, the entirety of the Drikung Kagyu protectors and the higher and lower tantra sections from H.E. Garchen Rinpoche, and received from Khenpo Jigme Phuntsok his own terma (mind treasure) of the Kilaya cycle of teachings. At Drikung Thil, he received from Drubpon Tendzin Nyima some of the profound teachings of the Drikung Kagyu such as the Fivefold Mahamudra and the Six Yogas [of Naropa]. He studied the Gong Chig (Single Intention), Essence of Mahayana, The Bodhisattva Way of Life, and the Thirty-Seven Bodhisattva Practices with Drikung Khenpo Namzig. Under the elder Drikung chant master Konchog Samten, he trained in the ritual practices of Chakrasamvara, Varahi, the Yangzab, Sarvavid and Akshobhya. Thereafter, H.E. Garchen Rinpoche appointed him as Vajra Master and asked him to undertake the reorganization and reestablishment of Buddhist practice and monastic discipline in monasteries throughout the region—after, in some cases, a twenty-five year breach in the Buddhist practice tradition— including Lho Miyel Monastery, Khargo Monastery and later Tseri Monastery in Sichuan where he reestablished the Great Accomplishment (Drupchen) practice of Yamantaka and gave other teachings. At the request of H.E. Garchen Rinpoche, he also served as Lama (religious teacher and minister) for two years at Tamgo Monastery in Central Tibet, the former dwelling place of Chung Dorje Dragpa, the fourth lineage holder of the Drikung Kagyu. There, Gape Lama established the summer retreat, set up a yearly teaching schedule and appointed a chant master, disciplinarian and shrine master. Later, at Gar Monastery, Gape Lama took responsibility for instructing the nuns at the Fivefold Mahamudra Meditation Center of Gargon Nunnery. In the year 2000, he went to India and received the complete Drikung Kagyu empowerments, transmissions and teachings during the Drikung Snake Year teachings. Thereafter, he went to Singapore, Malaysia and Taiwan. He then came to America to do a Yamantaka Retreat with HE Garchen Rinpoche and served as the Resident Retreat Master and Chant Master for the Garchen Institute in Arizona. He is the founder and Resident Lama of the Drikung Rinchen Choling Foundation in Los Angeles, California. H.E. Garchen Rinpoche has also requested Ven. Gape Lama to serve as religious ritual master for all the Gar Buddhist Dharma centers in the West.
