Assalaam-u-Aalaikum Warahmatullahe Wabarakatuhu,
Two ahadith are quoted regarding hijama.
"Perform on 17, 19 or 21 of hijri days."
"Do not perform on Wedneday."
I am confused whether or not we perform Hijama when one of the recommended Sunnah days (17, 19 and 21) falls on Wednesday. There are different views about this coincidence. Some say never perform Hijama on Wednesdays (except when in need) whereas some claim that if recommended sunnah days fall on Wednesday, one can perform Hijama. What should a therapist do? Any suggestion would really help to cope with this situation.
Wassalaam

wa alaykum salaam wa rahmatuAllaahi wa barakaatuh

The hadith about wednesday etc is weak. I had this hadith broken down by a muhaddith who said all ways and chains are weak. Ibn Qayyim rahimahuAllaah also mentioned in medicine of the Prophet (sal Allaahu alayhi wa salaam) that it is weak. I have treated many, many people on Wednesdays including myself and my teacher said the same to me. Nobody has got leprosy. Hope this helps.

Wa alaykumassalaam wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuhu

Abu Hurairah t reported that the Messenger r said,"Whoever performs cupping (hijama) on the 17th, 19th or 21st day (of the Islamic, lunar month) then it is a cure for every disease." [Saheeh Sunan abi Dawud (3861)].

The Best Days For Cupping (Hijama)

The best days for cupping (hijama) are the 17th, 19thand 21st of the Islamic, lunar month which coincide with Monday, Tuesday or Thursday.

Anas ibn Maalik y reported that the Messenger r said,"Whoever  wants to perform cupping (hijama) then let him search for the 17th, 19thand 21st…" [Saheeh Sunan ibn Maajah (3486)].

Ibn Umar y reported that the Messenger r said,"Cupping (hijama) on an empty stomach* is best. In it is a cure and a blessing. It improves the intellect and the memory. So cup yourselves with the blessing of Allah on Thursday. Keep away from cupping (hijama) on Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday to be safe. Perform cupping (hijama) on Monday and Tuesday for it is the day that Allah saved Ayoub from a trial. He was inflicted with the trial on Wednesday. You will not find leprosy except (by being cupped) on Wednesday or Wednesday night." [Saheeh Sunan ibn Maajah (3487)].

Ibn Umar y reported that the Messenger r said,"Cupping (hijama) on an empty stomach* is best. It increases the intellect and improves the memory. It improves the memory of the one memorising. So whoever is going to be cupped then (let it be) on a Thursday in the name of Allah.  Keep away from being cupped on a Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Be cupped on a Monday or Tuesday. Do not be cupped on a Wednesday because it is the day that Ayoub was befallen with a trial. You will not find leprosy except (by being cupped) on Wednesday or Wednesday night." [Saheeh Sunan ibn Maajah (3488)].

'alaa ar-reeq in arabic means to fast until after being treated with cupping. Once the treatment of cupping has been completed, one may eat and drink.

As for the Islamic day and night, the night enters before the day. So at sunset on Tuesday, Wednesday night comes in. Cupping (hijama) is best performed during the daytime between the adhaan of fajr and the adhaan of maghrib because yawm in arabic means daytime.

The Sunnah days for cupping (hijama) every month are when the 17th, 19th or 21st of the Islamic, lunar month coincide with a Monday, Tuesday or Thursday. These are the best and most beneficial days for cupping (hijama).  If one is not able to be cupped on the 17th, 19th or 21st (coinciding with Monday, Tuesday or Thursday) then any Monday, Tuesday or Thursday of the month. The most beneficial days for cupping (hijama) after the Sunnah days are the closest Monday, Tuesday or Thursday to the 17th, 19th or 21stof the Islamic, lunar month and Allah knows best.

As salaamu alayku wa rahmatuAllaahi wa barakaatuhu.

Had this hadith broken down by a muhaddith and this is his reply:

its long explaination: first, the standard of arabic in the hadith is not one that comes from the Prophet peace be upon him who was given the perfection of speech.
then the chain is very weak in all the ways the hadith came from. Ibn Hiban, Ibn uday, AL shawkani.....and many others made it very weak many of the ruwat in the hadith with all it ways are weak, unknown not trusted...etc ie: Abd Al malik ibn abd Rabuh AL ta'iy: known to fabricate hadiths, Othman ibn ja'afar unknown, Othman ibn matar he narrates manakir an not trusted an very weak...etc list goes on.

So all ways of the hadith are either fabricated or very weak.

Albani made one way of the hadith as hassan but albani is well known to make the chains  as hassan if unknown or weak narrators are in the chain but have been followed by others in the chain an this hadith one of em. which is not right.
Albani as well, well known to change his mind a lot, making one hadith saheh then comes back later an make it weak...etc.
In the book AL Fawakih Al Dawani (one book of Malikis): Hijamah is allowed in all days of the years even saturday and wednesday and Imam Malik used to practice it in this days in purpose (to show it's allowed) and he does not dislike any kind of medicine or treatment in it, because none of da prohibition proofs are saheeh nor hassan.

Plus this hadith contradict the stronger hadith of desirability of hijamah in 17, 19 and 21 which can fall in any days of da year even Wednesday,,,etc. Hijamah is desirable in this days of sunnah (odd days of second half of the month in  Islamic calendar) and that can fall in Wednesday...etc.

This short explanation because if I stand by every single narration it will take long and I need to explain in Arabic then.

The Hadith with all it ways is weak or fabricated so don't fill your mind with what Albani said.
All the chains in the ways of the hadith have either, uknown, very weak, not trusted, manakir narrators or hadith fabricators.
When it come to the chain of 1 way of many ways of the hadith, Albani does elivate that way of hadith to the degree of hassan because to him if unknown by haal or by a'ayn an weak narrator is found in the chain but followed by others it does elevate  to hassan. some scholars did ease in this and made some hadith of this type hassan. however, there's 2 types of majahil (unknown), by haal (maniere) and by A'ayn (the actual narator). The latter which is the case in this hadith can not be taken and used however the first one like I mentioned is ok in Shawahed an mutaba'at to some scholars who have ease in tawteeq but the majority do not.
So, this hadith is not authentic and all it ways either very weak or fabricated.
The hadith does not hve issues just in the chain but in the matn (body) as well an the standard of arabic construction in it is far from being from the prophet like scholars said.
this an Allah knows best.

Also weak in Ibn Qayyim's Medicine of the Prophet (sal Allaahu alayhi wa salaam).
