3 Types of Barley
If Whole barley (with its chaff intact) is not available in your area, your next best choice is HULLED barley (only the husk is removed) , which still retains some of its natural fiber.
If hulled barley is also unavailable, PEARL barley can be your last option . Although its outer husk & fiber have been removed, still it is a blessed grain, far better than white Wheat & White rice.
In Pakistan, many people use coarsely crushed Pearl barley for Talbinah, such a Talbinah is totally wrong to adopt, but if you don’t have Whole barley flour, as I said, Pearl barley should be the last option.
Another group of Muslims prepares Talbinah using oats instead of barley. One cannot help but wonder how far we have drifted from the traditional preparation of this blessed food.
Hulled barley flakes are also available and can be used as an alternative to oats; wherever oats are used in your recipes. This allows us to incorporate barley into our daily diet while retaining more of its natural fiber and nutritional value.
