Calculating the mother's current trigram ( babs-spar ).
I implemented ( as I was teached so ) that you start for Males on Li and
count clockwise and for Females you start on Kham and count
anti-clockwise. In both cases untill you reach the current age + 1.
For example 4.4 page 142 I find using this method the current Trigram is
Kham and subseqently I use the Element "Water" for the next calculations.
In the example the Trigram Khon is used which I can also calculate using
the method as described on page 102.
Using this method I make the diagonal jump at count 10 and continue
counting anti-clockwise from Zon at 11 finally reaching Khon at 25 (
1989 (subject born) - 1965 ( mother born ) + 1 = 25 ).
What do you suggest me to use ?

My calculations give Red9
I believe that my calculation for the numeric square is correct as for
1965 the birth Mewa is White 8 and comparing my calculation with the
table at page 103 you will find for a female with age 25 ( 1989 - 1965 +
1 = 25 ) Red 9.
Is this correct ?

In example 4.4 for the Mother's current numeric square the Vitality,
Body, Power and Luck element are all Water ( based upon the Black2)
I was teached the following:
The vitality element is in the south west which gives me for Red9 White6
which gives he element Iron.
The Body element is the same so Red9 which gives element Fire.
The Power element is in the north east which gives me for Red9 Blue3
which gives the element Water.
The luck element is rather complicated but gives me the element Iron.
What do I have to use here ?
Do I take Fire for all the elements or do I take the calculated element
values ?
All the calculations and presentation for 4.5 are done.

Hello Kees,
I'm very busy working full time on other unrelated writing projects these days; and unfortunately don't have much time to respond to your detailed questions. Hopefully Jampa Choephel or someone else will be able to assist. The model charts in the book were computer print-outs given to me at the Lhasa Mentsikhang by the late Khenpo Tsultrim Gyeltsen, who did go through them, one by one, albeit very quickly since he was unwell at the time and still seeing many patients each day in his capacity as a doctor.

As the text and, to my knowledge, the oral tradition both explain, the first technique is used for calculating the natal trigram and the second (the zigzagging or diagonal computation) technique for calculating the current trigram, as required in this example.

In both 1989 (earth snake) and 1965 (wood snake), aren’t the natal numeric square yellow 5, the vitality square white 8, and the destiny numeric square Black 2?

As for the pricing of this book, that had nothing to do with me. No doubt it was an expensive production and it represents a substantial and courageous investment on the part of the publishers, who commissioned me to research and write the book between 1997 and 2000. I do not partake of the royalties.

I do not complain about the price of the book but did not know if Jampa does have this book when he asked me about the examples. When Tenzang mentioned to me to buy this book I was unpleasantly surprised about the price but finally bought it and I have to say it's worth the price. ( Wisdom books in UK have a good offer for £ 200.10 instead of publishers price of £ 345.00 Not to mention the Amazon.com price of $ 699.94 = £ 435 )

I will change the program to do the zigzagging calculation.
2.
My calculations take into account that there are three cycles of 60 years.
Depending on the cycle the wood snake natal numeric square is Yellow5, White8 or Black2. The Wood Snake 1965 has White8.
Similar for Earth Snake it can be Yellow5, White8 or Black2. The Earth Snake 1989 has Black2.
That's why I end at Red9 for the current numeric square of the mother.
