Hi all, what is the range of the Bluetooth sensors?

Hi Jody,

Bluetooth’s maximum wireless range is about 30 meters (unobstructed).

But in real-world conditions, it’s typically lower due to furniture, people etc.

Are you asking about Vernier Go Direct sensors or other Bluetooth sensors?

Regards,

- Harshal

Hi Harshal
To be honest I havent used any of the wireless sensors. I am thinking a drone and sensor activity.
Taking readings at various heights
Which ones do you recommend to start with?

Cheers
Jody

The Tello drone has a built-in barometer.

Results may vary.

Jody,
I have gotten good results with the Vernier GoDirect sensors and TI Bluetooth adapter all the way up to 15, 20 meters.  And, of course, John tested the temperature sensor inside his closed freezer and got good readings outside. Not sure how far away he was standing :-)
For a classroom lab setting, that seemed more than sufficient and guarantees uninterrupted data collection. And if you take the sensors outside, the students would obviously take the TI-Nspire/TI-84s outside with them and stay reasonable close.

If you're thinking of a drone and sensor activity, that may push the limits of the Vernier GoDirect sensors and TI Bluetooth adapter. But it may be a great new way to combine the two, flying the Tello and collecting data at the same time.

Hello Jody,
Did I get that right - you like to add some sensor hardware payload to the Tello drone? Don‘t expect too much from these little motors. Also, the bottom of the drone should be left unobstructed, as its downward camera and IR sensor is needed to keep the drone hovering in place.

Keep us posted on your experiments!
Best,
Hans-Martin
