Hi,

Are you planning to use TI-Rover in your math classroom in the next few weeks?

If so, please reach out directly to me because I want to learn a bit more about the specific units, your approach, TI-Nspire CX II vs TI-84 Plus CE etc.

If you have used TI-Rover this school year OR are planning to use it at some point this school year, that would be good to know too.

Thanks,

- Harshal

Hi Harshal:
When we showed off the Rover at our annual conference in the spring of 2023, I was invited to do a presentation at the board meeting of the Ontario branch of NCTM. (In case you were not aware of it, my wife and I are the executive directors of OAME, the Ontario Association for Mathematics Education).
The President of OAME attended the playroom that we had for technology and loved what she saw. From that presentation, I was asked by several board members to come out to schools to do presentations on Rover to their kids. This put TI back into the minds of our board members in a way that we hadn't seen for a long time.
Four years ago, our curriculum changed and coding was put into the math curriculum for grades 1-9. What I do with the Rovers addresses those expectations nicely for grades 7-9.
I've also done that presentation at a local First Nations (Indigenous) school for their grades 5-8 classes, and with the calculus classes at the school that I retired from many moons ago!
I will likely be doing those presentations again this year. I've already had two requests already and I'm working with Tom Steinke to make arrangements to use the devices for this purpose again this year.
And, Tom invited our president to come down to Dallas for the conference. She had a great time, and she will be taking over our role as Executive Director when she retires in two years.
We have a long history with TI in Ontario that bloomed from 1999 to about 2010. Since then it has been waning due to other software and apps. But, we still have a presence at our annual conference. You should consider coming up here for that event in early May.
Thanks
Fred

I loved Fred's story. Thanks.

I used my Rovers in my Physics class just before our Fall Break and they really got into it. Topic: Motion
I'll likely do some more after the break next week.
