Hi Guys

I just received my new ez430 Chronos(White) watch and cannot get the wireless update to work . I have looked at a few sites and they all contradict each other. The manual tells me what to do but its not very clear.
This is the process I have followed :

Go to the control center
Click start Access Point,
Put watch into acc mode and pair it
Go to wireless Update and select the file I want to upload
Plush the "Update Chronos Watch" button  and ......the "access point" switches off and fails.

So how do I get wireless to work, I read a bit about soldering the RF module to the programmer !!! HUH  what is that all about??

If I cant get it to do wirelesss update , then what app(Linux) can i use to send updates to the watch ?

Going to be a big learning curve for me as I come from Arduino where everything is pretty easy to understand.

Thanks for the help in advance

Regards

Robby

Hi,

this works for me Ubuntu 13.10. without any soldering or hardware changes - white pcb

cd '/YOURPATHTO/Chronos Control Center'

sudo ./'eZ430-Chronos CC 1_2.tcl'

follow the description from update or get data

Best wishes Dan

Hello Robby!
First of all, congratulations on your new watch! It’s not an easy step from an Arduino to the chronos, but be persistant and you’ll soon understand how everything works!

To answer your question, there’s a lot of confusion lately because of the new watch models (the one with the white PCB), but in order to update the firmware on your watch, it needs to be in the rfBSL mode. You can get there via the menu. Precise instructions vary depending on which firmware you’re currently running.

So, you got nearly everything correct in your steps, but the watch needs to be in rfBSL mode, not in acc mode!

Thank you Aljaž for the kind words. I hope I can bring lots of ideas to the projects.

I am still cant get it right . Is this the way to do it.

Start the Access Point in the Control Centre under  "SimpliciTI"
Put the watch into rfBSL---> conf mode(Looks like its in reset mode).
Go to Wireless Update choose a file to upload and click "Update Chronos Watch".

When i do the above the watch resets and Wireless fails and access point switches off.

I think i am missing something

Robby

Hi Robby!
You’re nearly there. There’s a button to press on the watch in rfBSL mode to start the update. According to [1], the button is ‘*’.

Here are the ‘official’ instructions:

        Click "Update Watch"
Push "#" on the watch until "rFbSL" is shown on the LCD
        Push "*" to activate update

I believe that your issue is that the AP firmware needs to be updated. I don't have a direct link, but if you look at the TI wiki you should find the update. Basically, in order to get wireless update to work on the AP side, you need to solder the small connector that came in the kit to the pins on the access point. Then you can connect the AP to the debugger, and update the AP firmware from your computer. Again, I don't have a link or specific details, but check the Chronos wiki.

Thanks guys

I had to do the firmware upgrade as stated. Seems so confusing as the documentation says that the newer versions of the watch (White PCB) does not need upgrading.

Thanks for all the help
