Hi All,
Many P-Patches use rat traps to help control rodent populations.
The P-Patch program has rat traps, and rat trap boxes (to keep birds and other creatures from getting hurt) that we can provide to gardens, as long as there is someone who is committed to regularly managing them. We ask that you not use poisons as there is not an option that is safe for rodent predators like raptors, owls, and coyotes. Any rodents trapped in the garden should be placed in a garbage bag and disposed of in the trash, NOT COMPOST.
One thing to note, gardeners may very well have different feeling about rodent trapping. Out of respect for this, please don’t share detailed descriptions or photos of rodents and rodent control that others may find distressing via email or in person.
Some other things you can do to deter rodents in your garden.
If you have any questions, or would like some rat traps and boxes, please let me know.
Best,
Community Garden Coordinator, P-Patch Community Gardening Program
