General Meeting Summary May 14, 2024

Good Evening!

 

Thank you all for attending the meeting tonight. It was refreshing to see everyone in person. The following is not a replacement for the meeting minutes but a summary of topics covered tonight.

 

1. Discussion about the flooding and the need for more communication for clarity regarding the next steps.

 

2. Approval to go forward with Phase 1 regarding the property marking which will be letters/communication to neighbors. We will eventually motion to go forward with items to purchase after further discussion with the committee.

 

3. A meeting with Jason Bing to discuss the pond and specifics about the new school building.

 

4. Keeping record of correspondence with AAPS regarding any info related to the pond and new building.

 

5. Desired project by the Eagle Scouts

 

6. Need to have a few work days with specific emphasis (ie spread wood chips in muddy areas).

 

7. Appointment of Praveena Ramaswami to the committee (welcome aboard).

 

8. Clarity between committee, old Thurston Pond group, and broader neighborhood group (fine tuning to follow)

 

9. Emily Eisbruch to receive updated letter for Jeff Hamilton to be sent as an email blast via Mail Chimp.

 

10. Neighborhood turnover and the need to engage new neighbors.

 

Although not part of the meeting per se,

 

I do want to share that Racheal Oram has been elected as PTO President for the upcoming school year. Big congratulations to her for taking on this role! While we congratulate her for this, unfortunately she will be stepping down from her role as Pond Steward. We thank her for the time that she served. There is now a vacancy for the role of Pond Steward on the committee.

Please let me know if you have any edits, corrections, etc. 

Also, did we set a date for our next meeting? I did not have this noted in my meeting minutes.

This is a follow up on my email below of May 15, 2024 about a Thurston Nature Center newsletter to our email list. 

I requested materials for the next TNC newsletter by May 24.

I have not received content from Jeff or anyone else for this newsletter.

The last email newsletter to our TNC email list community was December 2023 and is posted here:

Perhaps there is a feeling that things are in too much flux right now, with the committee examining the TNCC by-laws and getting ready to work on the officer election process. Open to thoughts on whether a newsletter to the Thurston Nature Center community makes sense. 

Usually, communication is a good thing.
