Position Title:  Development Director/Grant Writer

Position Type:  Full time, Exempt.

About Us:  The Family Support Center is a 501c(3) nonprofit located in historic downtown Olympia.  The Family Support Center serves thousands of families and children each year through the provision of quality programs and supportive services in collaboration with several other on-site child and family service nonprofit agencies.  The Family Support Center’s mission is “Working Together to Strengthen All Families.”

Position Summary:  The Development Director's main objective is to generate funds for the Family Support Center while promoting our mission and programs.  The Development Director will perform a variety of duties including but not limited to grant writing, fundraising, donor development, volunteer recruitment, event planning, and public relations/marketing.  

Job Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Experience:  Successful applicant must have 3 or more years of experience in professional fundraising, grant writing, community relations, or related executive position in a nonprofit. 
  • Availability:  Full time, Monday-Friday, must be willing to work some evenings/weekends.
  • Education/Training:  Minimum: Bachelor’s Degree in communications, journalism, marketing, social work, or related field or equivalent experience
  • Technology:  Proficient in computer use, including Microsoft Windows programs such as MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Adobe, Publisher, In Design, PowerPoint, Access and/or other donor database or development/grant management software.  Experience with social networking applications such as Facebook, Twitter, etc. 
  • Licenses/Certification:  Must possess a Valid WA State Drivers License, must pass Washington State Patrol criminal background check.

 

Desired Knowledge/Skills/Attributes: 

·       Supports the mission of the Family Support Center; Must be passionate, committed, and possess a strong desire to help families and children

·       Strong public speaking, public relations, and communication skills.

·       Excellent writing skills, demonstrated grant writing success

·       Strong organizational and time management skills

·       Event planning experience & demonstrated success

·       Ability to work independently with limited direction, lead and organize small groups, and learn quickly

·       Highly motivated, enthusiastic, positive attitude, flexible, team player

·       Sense of humor and creativity desired

·       Ability to work well with others and foster collaboration

·       Web and graphic design experience desired

·       Ability to effectively manage conflicts, solve problems, work under pressure, meet deadlines, and handle the unexpected.

·       Must be detail oriented--pay close attention to detail and aesthetic design

·       Knowledge/familiarity with the Family Support Center is desired

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plan and administer all fund-raising programs and activities of the Family Support Center; achieve funding goals and meet objectives
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive annual fundraising plan
  • Develop new and innovative marketing and fundraising strategies/programs
  • Cultivate volunteer support; recruit and train volunteers as needed
  • Seek and coordinate collaborative fundraising and programmatic opportunities for the Family Support Center and other agencies co-located at the Family Support Center
  • Research and write funding requests to foundations, corporations, individuals, organizations, and other prospective donors. 
  • Generate new funding for the organization including support for program priorities and fundraising goals identified in the strategic plan and by the Board of Directors
  • Offer creative and active leadership for the organization at large; Serves as a member of the Family Support Center’s executive/management team. 
  • Spearhead efforts to research, identify, solicit, and obtain individual, corporate, and foundation contributions.
  • Produce and write proposals, grants, sponsorships, and reports. 
  • Oversee preparation and production of all promotional mailings, printed pieces, newsletters, annual report, web, and internet communications, as related to fund-raising and FSC programs/services.
  • Solicit, cultivate, establish, build and maintain strategic relationships with donors and partners; increase donor base
  • Plan and execute annual fund-raising plans, efforts, special events, and programs.
  • Represent, promote, and increase overall visibility, public support, and recognition of the Family Support Center
  • Responsible for public relations, media communications, speaking engagements, community events, etc. as delegated by the Executive Director
  • Development and management of donor records, lists, acknowledgements, etc. 
  • Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director
