2011 Hiring
Beats
Recession
Fears

Dear Reader, Past two quarters were
the ones where several sources raised
concerns of an approaching recession
or slowdown possibly. This also lead
to a speculation that hiring could
suffer as a result of that. But what is
happening is something really
surprising everyone in the field. Yes,
hiring is at full pace with no looking
back from the companies. Sure they
have plans to tackle any recession or
slowdown.
Why one should believe this
positive trend ?
If you consider Tamilnadu for
example, there are few private
universities where companies have
gone up to hiring over 1000 in a single
day. These are huge numbers given
the economic fears prevailing at this
time.
Why some colleges are concerned ?
While companies are trying to hire as
much as possible, colleges are trying
hard to balance between companies.
For example, if a company comes and
hires 75% of total engineers, then the
following companies are left with only
25% of the lot. Several colleges have
started allowing dual placements
where a student can appear for
successive placement tests despite
being selected by one company.
Is this true about all colleges ?
This year, even tier II colleges are
being benefited. But there are some
fears prevailing among not so popular
colleges. They fear that the companies
can potentially wind up after hiring
enough numbers from popular
institutes. But, there are sources
suggesting this might not be the case.
It could be just a matter of time
before these companies will turn up
towards each and every college
possible as the requirement for
human resources is literally very high.
In some states, centralized placement
drives are a usual thing. For example,
Tamilnadu used to have common
placement drives carried at zone/
district level. These kinds of drives can
fulfill the dreams of many talented
youngsters studying in smaller
colleges in lesser known towns.
Hope you found this article useful. All
the best for your placements.
