I have a Hotmail account that works with DAV (so far), and a Yahoo!
free account (in the US).

I set up Thunderbird 2.0.0.12 with WebMail 1.3.2, Hotmail 1.2.19, and
Yahoo 1.3.4. Hotmail (not using DAV) works (as far as yet tested), but
Yahoo gives me an error message: "Sending of password did not succeed.
Mail server pop.mail.yahoo.com responded: pop not allowed for user."

Apparently I have the Yahoo extension configured for POP? How do I set
it for Web-based?

(Under Tools>Add-ons>WebMail-Yahoo Options>Yahoo Options, I have:
Mode=Beta Website (it was on Production, and I also tried New
Classic).
POP: Only "Mark emails as read..." is checked, no folders listed.
Advanced: Use Short ID is checked.

Under ....@Yahoo, Settings:
Acct name includes @yahoo.com
Name and edress entered
Outgoing server=Webmail - localhost (Default)
Server Settings:
servername=pop.mail.yahoo.com
port=110
username incl @yahoo.com
[omitting other settings, as irrelevant until I can connect]

I tried changing server to localhost:
After request for password, got error: "Sending of password did not
succeed. Mail server localhost responded: negative vibes
from ...@yahoo.com."

So can this extension be used to access Yahoo! Free/US mail? And if
so, how?

The only valid server name to use with these extensions is localhost
(or its numeric equivalent 127.0.0.1). Without that the extension is
not invoked at all. Free Yahoo accounts in the US are not provided
with any server names to be used. The purpose of the Yahoo extension
is to retrieve Yahoo mail from the Yahoo Web mail store and convert it
into a POP mail stream that can be accepted by Thunderbird so that's
why your Yahoo account in Thunderbird is a POP account.

You are most probably using the latest interface with Yahoo on the Web
so it seems you have already selected the correct option in the Yahoo
extension with the Beta Website.

One other setting that is important and no covered in your post. The
communication between Thunderbird and the extensions works solely an
completely inside your computer and for it to work you must *not* have
selected a secure connection in the Yahoo account in Thunderbird. The
setting should be No/Never.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get on.

I checked the security setting: radio button (...>server
settings>security settings) was on never. Double-checked: Using
localhost and Beta as I reported. Still negative vibes, then after
clicking okay to that report, I get a logon/password dialog.

I logged on via Website (to make sure I in fact have the user and
password correct--I do, got in). I see that the logo includes the word
"classic" (under "Mail", to right of "Yahoo!"). I changed Webmail
option to New Classic. Still same "negative vibes from Yahoo.com".
(Per Website access, I have 3 unread messages. Also, I logged off of
Website before trying Tbird.) Still getting password dialog after neg.
vibes.

I went back to Website access. I thought I'd check options, and I saw
an option to try new interface, selected it. Logged out, went back to
Tbird, changed Webmail to Beta, tried to access Yahoo. Success!

Thanks for your help!

You've discovered what appears to be the only workaround for this bug.
For me, it has been temporary. The "negative vibes" message always
comes back. Sometimes it is necessary to switch to New Classic, then
log out and log in on the Web before switching back. Of course, if you
like New Classic on the web, no need to switch back but "negative
vibes" will eventually return here too.

I have the same problem, but simply with the negative vibes. I already
use the brand-new interface, but I still get the same "bad vibes"
message. I'll double check my settings, but I think they're all
correct already though.

Nope. Setting is at "Never", and I've still got negative vibes.

I have the following settings, and it's working.

(Under Tools>Add-ons>WebMail-Yahoo Options>Yahoo Options, I have:
Mode=Beta Website
POP: Only "Mark emails as read..." is checked, no folders listed.
Advanced: Use Short ID is checked.

Under ....@Yahoo, Settings:
Acct name=Web Mail - **@yahoo.com
Name and edress entered
Outgoing server=Webmail - localhost (Default)
Server Settings:
servername=localhost
port=110
username incl @yahoo.com
Leave messages on server=y
Copies & Folders settings:

couple of questions ...

When you go to Yahoo Mail on the Web .... What is shown next to the
Yahoo! logo in the upper left of the screen? Does it say "Mail" or
"Mail" with the word "Classic" underneath?

When you go to the options of the Yahoo Webmail extension what account
type do you have selected for your account in the "Mode" tab?

It just says "Mail" (I CAN tell the difference, you know), but I
wonder, because I didn't think to check the Add-on settings yet...

MaxyDawg,

let's gloss over the clue I gave about checking the Yahoo extension
account setting earlier ... I am just very glad that you got it
working and are (at least for now) a happy user of the all the work
that Webmail Author does for us.

On that note, I can download new mail, but when I tried to send
something last night, it didn't like my password.

I got this fixed with help on another thread, just today:

Go to Yahoo>Accounts\View settings for this account>Account Settings,
and see what your SMTP server is set at. It should be Webmail,
pointing to your Yahoo address. If you're not sure that's what it's
set for, go, within Account Settings, to Outgoing Server, add or edit
a correct entry. Go back to your Yahoo account settings and select
this server for your outgoing mail server.

See if that gets it. (If not, somebody who actually knows something
will have to help you.)

MaxyDawg,

please make sure that in the Thunderbird SMTP entry for your Yahoo
account you have:

Server: localhost (or 127.0.0.1)
User name: youru...@yahoo.com (in full)
Security setting: None

Above and beyond that the format of the message matters.

These extensions cannot do anything that you could not do if you
logged onto Yahoo Mail on the Web.

One of the important restrictions of Yahoo Mail on the Web interface
is that cannot have any embedded images in the message you are sending
- Yahoo simply does not allow you to do that. Images have to be
attachments.

Thunderbird will allow you to create a message with embedded images -
it has no idea what service you will use to deliver it but the Yahoo
extension cannot force such a message through the Yahoo Web interface
and that may be the cause of the problem you encountered.

Please try a text only message as a test and see if that gets
delivered.
