I can't download any hotmail mail.
Negative vibes started 4-5 hours ago.
Any way to fix? Any update to the extension?

TIA

Give this a try.

Log in to the web interface for Hotmail via your web browser, go to Options>More Options.
Then click Account Details, and at the bottom there is a link to
"Connect with HTTPS". Enable this option and your error with TB Webmail will probably go away.

There been several accounts that this has fix the negative vibes error lately.

Thanks, Eugene, I just tried that, but it did not fix the negative
vibes. :(
Any other suggestions/ideas?

amisababi,

I, too, have been getting "bad vibes" from two (basic/free) Hotmail
accounts. I tried Eugene's suggestions on both accounts but it didn't
work for me either. What I ended up doing is just connecting directly
via POP3. If you are interested, here are the settings that worked for
me.

POP3 Server: pop3.live.com
User Name: my-e...@hotmail.com
Connection security: SSL/TLS
Port: 995
Authentication method: Normal password

SMTP server: smtp.live.com
User Name: my-e...@hotmail.com
Connection security: STARTTLS
Port: 587
Authentication method: Normal password

Cheers,
Gary

Thanks, Gary. I am aware of the POP3 access workaround, used it
before, but really don't wanna use again it as the webmail extension
is so much better than the POP3, so hopefully there is a way to fix it
to make it work again...

Cheers

Obviously something has changed with hotmail. I'm adding my name to
the list. Has anyone contacted or heard from the author directly?

Hi all,

The HTTPS option does not fix the problem for me, as it didn't for
other users.

Would the webmail author be interested in the log files? I'll be happy
to provide them.

Kind regards,

I started receiving the following message on the Hotmail webmail site this morning myself and following the instructions does not fix the problem. Apparently there is problem on Microsoft side. It seems to be intermittent as sometimes I am able to get in without a problem. It is affecting both my TB and FF.

I suspect anyone using WebMail to read their hotmail will be having this
problem, so I doubt whether it's worth anyone's while for everyone to
keep confirming this.

What are the downsides of using the POP3 connection (as mentioned by
Gary in this thread) versus the WebMail connection? I've just switched
over to POP3 and from what I can see the only downside is that the mail
does not get marked as read on Hotmail - i.e. even after I've downloaded
and read the mail in Thunderbird, the email still shows up as unread
when I log in to Hotmail via their website.

If this is the only plus of the WebMail connection then I think I'll
just stick with POP3.

'myaccount'@hotmail.com
and the HTTPS trick mentioned above doesn't help.

I'm also happy to send logs if it will help.

If you have filters set up on the Hotmail site to filter mails into
custom folders, the POP3 connection will not download from these
folders. The POP3 protocol only allows Thunderbird or any other email
client to download from the inbox of the server, all other folders and
sub-folders are invisible to a POP3 client.

You can't get your junk mail or sent mail with only POP, so you still
have to login to the web site to see if you are missing any messages
in the junk folder. Defeats the purpose of a windows based email
client.

Not unusual for there to be an action needed to be taken by you, in
person, on the website. Something like acknowledging a message, clearing
a "Captcha" or some other action that the extension cannot do for you.

You can find all files here:

PS: Be careful not to download the absolute latest file until Webmail Author tells us that they're officially OK to use.

Are those new versions (hotmail-1-3-3 + web-mail-1-4-1) compatibles

OK, but I still prefer to stay on TB3. I hope a compatible webmail and
hotmail extension will be possible. See you soon.
