Hello all.

I posted about a month ago that I was having problems with the
maildotcom plugin. Even with all of the helpful suggestions from
various people on the board, I was not able to get a working
configuration to get mail into thuderbird again.

So here's what I have tried so far:
Mail.com plugin.
AOL plugin.
Instructions posted on this forum on how to use pop3 with AOL.
Instructions posted on this forum on how to use imap with AOL.
Instructions posted on this forum on how to use imap with AOL and the
AOL plugin (for some reason imap has a cross next to the mindless.com
domain in the plugin?).

I know I am on the new Mail.com interface (because the plugin stopped
working at the same time as the new interface was rolled out). I am
reasonably sure my account is not on the AOL system. because when
trying to sign into the AOL wemail page I get a credentials error (and
thats using the details I'm using on the mail.com webmail page).

I have two accounts with mail.com, one ending in "mindless.com" and
the other ending in "email.com". I cannot get either to work with any
of the above listed methods, and the maildotcom plugin gives me a
"negative vibes" message. I'll be happy just to get the mindless.com
one working for now.

I hope that someone will be able to assist me in getting a workable
configuration for thunderbird/maildotcom.

Many thanks to all in advance.
Jason

Hi Jason,

I've had the same problem with my writeme.com account. Today I've
downloaded the most recent version of the aol plugin
(aol-1-2-13b8.zip) from the files section. Then I've added the
writeme.com domain to the domains list of the aol plugin and disabled
the maildotcom plugin. Now I can read my writeme.com messages from
within Thunderbird 3.0. The webmail plugin is version 1.3.5.

I hope this information has helped you.

Greetings,
Tommy

Hi Jason,

I've had the same problem as you with my writeme.com account. I've
solved it today by downloading the newest aol plugin from the files
section of this group. (aol-1-2-13b8.zip). I'm using webmail plugin
version 1.3.5 on Thunderbird 3.0. I've disabled the maildotcom plugin
and added the writeme.com domain to the domain section of the aol
plugin. Now, I can read my writeme.com mails again from within
Thunderbird.

I hope this info helps you too.

Happy holidays,
Tommy

Hello Tommy.

Many thanks for your suggestion of trying the latest beta version of
the AOL plugin. I was not able to get a successful download of my
mail with it however.

From what I can tell from the logs, the AOL plugin uses the following
URL to authenticate: webmail.aol.com. Here are my observations with
manually trying to log into this address:

1. If I am logged into my mindless.com account through www.mail.com,
and then I bring up a new browser window/tab and go to
webmail.aol.com, the aol website will "single sign on" log me into my
mindless.com mailbox (perhaps the action of logging into the initial
mail.com website sets cookies). Net result is I have two windows open
with my mail in it.

2. If I do not log into my mindless.com account through www.mail.com,
then I bring up a new browser window/tab for webmail.aol.com and
attempt to log in with my mindless.com credentials, the website
replies with "Invalid username or password. Please try again.". I am
not able to get past this point.

Other thoughts:

I signed up for ICQ/AOL instant messenger many years ago, and I used
my mindless.com email address as a login. I think the AOL system uses
the same login system but different databases, so I am not sure if my
accounts for mindless.com and ICQ/AOL will ever be linked (I have
spent many hours on their website looking for information without much
success). It doesn't appear that either credential sets (ICQ/AOl or
mindless.com) works in the webmail.aol.com authentication screen.

With this in mind, are there any other suggestions that anyone can
think of to help me try resolve this issue? The only thing I can
think of is a slight modification of the AOL plugin to use the www.mail.com
signon page rather than the AOL signon page, but I don;t know how to
go about doing that.

Many thanks
Jason
