I've been using the webmail add-on for some time to access my
talk21.com & hotmail.co.uk emails however recently it has stopped
working giving the error ".. is a unsupported domain"

I've tried going into the configuration to check it's still there /
add it but clicking on Domains tab in the yahoo or hotmail add-ons
just causes thunderbird to hang. They are both listed in the domains
list of the main webmail add-on and shown as working ok

I tried updating with the latest versions on this site but no
difference

WebmailData directory contains HotmailDomains.txt and YahooDomains.txt
both of which are empty

webmail version is 1.3.2

yahoo tried 1.3.4 & 1.4.0a1

hotmail tried 1.2.17 & 1.2.18

I'm using thunderbird version 2.0.0.14 (20080421)

Can you try deleting domains.db3 from your profile

tried that... domains.db3 recreated but problem with unsupported
domain and locking up when going into domains persisted

however, tried adding hotmail.co.uk and talk21.com into
HotmailDomains.txt and YahooDomains.txt manually (cos maybe
domains.db3 had been recreated empty... seemed worth a go) and then
hey presto everything works! (including fully populated domains list
in the add-on options so I guess domains.db3 wasn't empty after all)

I had tried adding in the domains before without making any difference
so removing domains.db3 does seem to have been the key

Thanks

Mark

I have been having this problem recently (discussion was Lycos.co.uk
Yahoo.co.uk and Hotmail.com-disappearing accounts). I'd be interested
to know what should be in these .txt files! My HotmailDomains.txt file
contains the 2 lines <database>
</database>.
The LycosDomains and YahooDomains .txt files appear to be blank (I
using a standard text editor to look at them).

I have deleted the domains.db3 file as discussed here, but it doesn't
alwasy seem to work. What I've done about 2 days ago is to allow it to
recreate itself, and then I've changed it to read only which seems to
work pro tem.

Text file contents advice welcome!

In a previous version of the extensions the Hotmail/Lycos/
YahooDomains.txt was used to store for custom domains. Custom domains
are now store in Domains.db3 along with the default domains.

What OS are you using?

I've done as you recommend.
I've installed this and reset the file properties (not r-o etc.) and
so far, so good.

I think this a permissions problem either with the folder or file and
its a virus checker that's causing it, but this only a guess.

Everything seems to be working OK since I downloaded and installed the
version you advised on 18th July.

As I mentioned in my other thread on this topic, I have previously
tried working with both Avast AV and Comodo firewall disabled but the
problem occurred under that circumstance.

At the moment I'm trying to work out a way in Windows to see exactly
what apps have accessed a particular file, as I can't see why either
of these programs would need/want/try to access or modify the
webmaildata folder or domains.db3.

It might be useful if fretz68 could say whether he has been using av/
firewall and if so, which ones?

However, if the download has fixed the problem permanently, then the
issue becomes academic.

I had another occurrence after I reset the file permissions (i.e.
removed read only restriction). However, I have set the Avast logging
to verbose mode, and these contain reference to domains.db3 - though
until I can get more info from Alwil I can't really see WHAT Avast was
doing. However, I have excluded the webmaildata folder from scanning
in hope that this might solve it.

Can you exclude the folder

avast is simply telling you the files it is scanning as they are
accessed avast does not change the accessibility of files. The folks
I support and I have been long term users of the webmail extensions
along with avast without any issues.

You mentioned above that the problem occurred with both the anti-virus
and firewall disabled so that would suggest the problem exists
elsewhere.

As a systems developer, that is what I thought. I couldn't see how an
application like Avast could open an sql file and corrupt it. Like
you, there has been no change in the status quo of systems with which
I am concerned; hence the reason for my puzzlement.
As I said in my earlier posts, the key to this is to determine exactly
what accesses domains.db3 when it becomes accessible after making it
read/write. From your info I can sideline Avast as a possible culprit.
Where next, I wonder!
