This has annoyed me for a couple days, so I decided to try something
new today. I have two yahoo accounts that I use webmail to check, and
while one of them worked fine, the other didn't. On the affected
account, I logged in through the yahoo website, and switched the
account to the beta. After that, I changed the preference for that
account to use the beta site. Only after I changed the account on
through the yahoo website did this setting work.

Yes, this worked for me, too. I'd been getting the negative vibes
for days, glad you found this fix!

Thanks for the tip. It's been driving me nuts lately also. I would
also mention that what needs to be changed to Beta is the mail
selection at Yahoo. At first I changed "My Yahoo" to the beta version
and that didn't resolve the email issue. Then I realized there are
two "betas" at Yahoo; the main web portal and the email system.
Changing the email selection to beta seems to have fixed the "bad
vibes" annoyance.

You don't suppose this is a heavy handed effort by Yahoo to force
users onto the beta version?

Thanks from me as well. Same problem, same timeframe. Tried to post
to the Mozdev mailing list but my mail never seems to propogate on
that list.

Regardless, works now, even better than before.

The reason for the "negative vibes" error usually is that the Yahoo
Webmail Add-on is switchable between the servers for the classic Yahoo
Mail or Mail Beta. If you are getting the "negative vibes" error, it
is likely the server chosen for each Yahoo account does not match the
form of Yahoo Mail (Classic vs. Beta) you are using.

If that is not it, the other possibility is that Yahoo has made
changes to their side of the systems. Changing options may not help in
that case.

Whatever you do, don't flip back and forth between beta and classic. I
had the problem, switched to beta, fixed it, went back to classics,
screwed it up. Now the change to beta doesn't work for me.

It isn't just a mozilla webmail problem. Using an entirely different
POP program, I could login but couldn't retrieve messages from the
inbox, this only with one of my yahoo account. After I switched that
account to the mail beta I could retrieve from the inbox again using
the POP program.

I was getting the negative vibes issue as well. Thanks to you all, the
problem is now fixed! Just switch to Yahoo mail beta and change to
Yahoo mail extension setting in Thunderbird to the beta option and it
fixed my problem.

The very recent problems are due to Yahoo. Apparently, Yahoo is doing
some sort of slow rollout (They aren't doing it to every account,
YET!) of a change in their system. Others such as users of YPOPs! and
FreePOPs have discovered the insertion of an antivirus page or
something like that.

Programs like Thunderbird with Webmail, YPOPs or FreePOPs are
attempting to download a new email, encountering this new thing that
Yahoo is doing and the download of the email stops. With YPOP's at
least and maybe the others, the email is being marked as read on
Yahoo, too.

A FreePOPs user has come up with a patch that "works around" this
Yahoo change. YPOPs! users seem only to be able to switch to Yahoo
Mail Beta and upgrade to YPOPs! beta to work around this Yahoo change.

Personally, I have tried the Yahoo Mail Beta, but can't stand how they
force things on us rather than taking us straight to our inboxes. I
have provided my feedback to them basically saying if they don't try
to emulate Google's Gmail, they won't be able to compete with what I
regard as the best webmail on the market at this point. Yahoo Mail
Beta gives me little if any reason to choose it over Gmail or even AOL
for the matter. Both of those allow free pop access and imap for AOL
specifically whereas Yahoo is unable to figure out how to offer such
access free of charge like their competitors.

Back to the topic, my guess is that it is only a matter of time until
something like this crops up with Yahoo Mail Beta, too.

Beta build 1.2.3b3 (http://thunderbird-webmail-
extension.googlegroups.com/web/yahoo-1-2-3b3.zip) solved the problem!
Switching to Yahoo beta also did, but is not an option for me, as beta
setting in webmail extension does not support smtp feature of saving a
copy of sent messages in the corresponding account folder of Yahoo's
server.

Ah, but all is not yet well!

the beta version DID fix my connectivity/bad vibes problem...but it
doesn't seem to be properly deleting mail from my Yahoo inbox: I keep
getting the same 6 e-mails everytime I check for incomming mail!
(Which is every 10 minutes!)

Not there yet...but close!

I just tried this, and I don't get the error message, but I don't get
any email downloading either. Now, nothing happens after I send my
password. I'm running Thunderbird 1.5.0.12.

Would appreciate any advice.

Okay, now it's working again. I think I had mistakenly not switched
everything to beta in all the testing back and forth. Sorry for any
confusion.

Thanks!

With that new extension, it worked very fine and I didn't need tu put
anything on beta option to make it work.

Thanks a lot!!

bad vibes disappeared.

Funny how NOT getting my Yahoo mail turned out to be less annoying
than getting the same ones over and over again every 10 minutes!!

I switched back to 1.2.2 (from the 1.2.3-beta) and tried the Yahoo
Beta trick. That's working fine for me (although I may miss the no-
SMTP option)!

We LOVE our webmail add-on, don't we?!

Ok soo I just changed my mail to the beta production version and am
still having problems. I just downloaded the new yahoo extension and
version of webmail and it fixed my problem with sending e-mail but
didn't fix my problem of recieving mail.

Just wanted to confirm that the latest Yahoo! add-on (1.2.3b4) did,
indeed, fix my fail-to-delete-mail issue!

I am also getting bad vibes, on version 1.2.3b4. With the logging
enabled, it looks like its having a problem recognizing the login
page:

12:25:48 AM--YahooPOPBETA.js: loginHandler : Exception : TypeError.
Error message: mainObject.m_aLoginForm[0].match(patternYahooSpanURI)
has no properties
346
12:25:48 AM--YahooPOPBETA.js - serverComms msg -ERR negative vibes
from c0dr...@yahoo.com

I do have the beta site enabled. Is there anything I should be trying?

figment,

Why did you install the test Yahoo extension? Was the previous
production version failing you?

Were you already experiencing problems or did you just install the
test version because it was there?

I waited until my accounts were exhibiting problems before installing
the test version - which fixed my problems.

I think that this is generally the assumption of our developer ...
test versions are not always backwards compatible so if you load a new
version too soon you may well experience problems.
