I don't understand anything about this plug-in or thunderbird in
general. Mostly because there doesnt seem to be any documentation
that makes any sense. I'm using the webmail plugin to download my
hotmail (now livemail - that's mail.live.com etc), but trying to reply
to people that I receive emails from simply gives me a dialog box that
says,
Mail Server Password Required
Enter your password for ******.*** on localhost
where the stars are the email address for a different account.

When I press enter, I get the error:
Send Message Error.
Sending of message failed.
The message could not be sent because connecting to SMTP server
localhost failed. The server may be unavailable or is refusing SMTP
connections. Please verify that your SMTP server setting is correct
and try again, or else contact your network administrator.

What the hack is going on? I thought I was supposed to both receive
and send email with this plug-in, but all I can do is receive email,
and get bizarre error messages requesting that I supply a password to
a nonexistent account to an SMTP server that I don't have.

This suggests that you have Thunderbird set to use the SMTP server for
the other account as the default, when setting up a new account
Thunderbird will always use this server unless you manually override the
default. The default server should work if you put the correct password
in when requested. However it would be better to use the "Localhost"
server that the extension should have set up when installed.
In "Tools" "Account Settings", look for the entry for your Livemail
account. There should be a drop down menu for SMTP server that allows
you to choose from the servers available which one to use for this account.
Settings for my Localhost, (see outgoing server (SMTP) settings at the
bottom of the account settings Window are;
Description. "Hotmail" , you don't have to give it a description, but if
you have more than one webmail account set up, you will need some way of
telling them apart.
Server Name "Localhost"
Port 25, this is the default, no need to change this unless you are
using some flavour of Unix as your operating system.
Use Name and Password is selected, My full Hotmail address is the user name.
Use secure connection, No
