Open multiple Browsers/drivers withing the same test but without using Screenplay pattern.

I know with screenplay pattern, using actors multiple browser can be opened within the context of the same test. 

I was wondering if the same is possible WITHOUT using the screenplay pattern. 

Basically on the existing POM test->step>pageObject pattern, is it possible to use @Managed annotation to open multiple browsers.
