Hi,

We are OSMC (https://osmc.tv). OSMC (Open Source Media Center) is a free and open source media player based on Linux and founded in 2014 that lets you play back media from your local network, attached storage and the Internet. OSMC is the leading media center in terms of feature set and community. Our distribution is based on Debian Jessie and Kodi (formerly XBMC). We offer a semi-rolling release with monthly updates. As we release monthly updates, this is causing a significant strain on our already overprovisioned CDN.

We would appreciate it if you could mirror our project. We simply need to synchronise over rsync and serve files over HTTP. We don't have any complex requirements. Our mirror is currently approx 15GB and could grow up to 25GB in the future. We can weight your mirror properly if you let us know your network connectivity.

I look forward to hearing from you

Best,

Sam

Hi Sam,

We're glad to mirror OSMC project. We would start mirror job as soon as you provide the rsync server
address :)

Cheers,
Justin Wong

Hi Justin,

Thanks for the quick reply

We are hosting an APT repository, so it is advised to rsync in two stages:

rsync -auP --exclude Packages* --exclude Sources* --exclude Release* --exclude InRelease --exclude i18n/* --exclude ls-lR* rsync://rsync.samnazarko.co.uk/cdn /var/www/html

rsync -auP --delete rsync://rsync.samnazarko.co.uk/cdn /var/www/html

It would be great (but not necessary) if you could synchronise hourly. Can you let me know about the mirror's bandwidth? And do you provide FTP or rsync so that we can verify synchronisation?

Many thanks!

Sam

Hi Sam,

We've started the syncing job, and syncing interval is 4 hours.

We also provide rsync access, rsync://mirrors.tuna.tsinghua.edu.cn/osmc/

Our bandwidth is: shared 1000Mbps over IPv4 and shared 10Gbps over IPv6.

Cheers,

带宽什么时候变得这么壕了?

Hi Sam,

The syncing has done. I'm wondering if you can provide a document of how to use mirrors on OSMC,
so that we can but it on our website.

Cheers,
Justin

Hi Justin,

We will automatically redirect our download and APT services to your mirror. Thank you very much for your support!

Best wishes,

Sam

Hi Justin,

We are sometimes having some issues connecting to the mirror via rsync (which we use to verify the integrity of the mirror).

Hi Sam,

Our master DNS server meets a power issue and the slave is suffering
from network issue, and very unfortunately, this happens on a weekend of
winter holiday so all faculties are absent.

Currently we can only wait for the next weekday.

Cheers,

Hi Justin,

No problem -- I just wanted to make sure this was not an issue at our side.

Hello

We have stopped using mirrors for APT, as we found it to be unreliable. Some mirrors cached files for too long and some did not fully mirror the repository, which caused Hash Sum Mismatch errors with clients. We now use a single known good mirror for APT at this time; and only use the mirror director for downloads. This may change in the future however.

We used to bundle apt-transport-https but this is not necessary as this mirror offers an HTTP source.

Subject: Re: [THU Mirror:2961] Mirroring OSMC

Hey guys, great to see there's a mirror inside China for OSMC, thanks!

I've just installed OSMC on my Pi in Beijing (I'm from the UK but brought a Pi over when I moved to China!) and unfortunately the Tsinghua mirror is never selected by the mirror system.
@Sam - is there something that can be done to fix this? If I run:

from multiple machines in China (I have my personal laptop, and a few web servers in China) they all return the address http://ftp.fau.de/osmc/osmc/apt/ as opposed to the Tsinghua server.
Because of the Great Firewall of China, connecting to websites outside of China is really, really, slow (my apt update is currently downloading at 10.5kB/s) so it would be really great to improve the mirror distribution system to provide the Tsinghua server for all users in China.

I'm happy to help debug/test!

Thanks
