I am part of a social media moms group and I am always amazed and impressed at the knowledge and creativity that these moms possess. One of the moms, Natalie Akpele, owns Cuddlebuggs, a nanny placement company. Natalie shared her experience and knowledge as both a Nanny and a Nanny recruiter in the Pick The Perfect Nanny Guide. I have never had a Nanny per se. For years we had our black grandma, Elaine, helping out. We didn't do an extensive nanny search, she just sort of feel into our lives. Elaine was amazing. She took great care of my kids, treated them like her own really. Every so often she would take them on these "field trips" to places like "Moo & Oink" and to overnights in her neck of the woods. She taught me all about African American skin and hair care, how to make amazing macaroni and cheese (a recipe I would share if I could but I can't because everything is a pinch of this, a splash of that), and exposed my kids to things they never would have experienced with their white parents. I could ask Elaine anything about racism and she would always give me her take. She was an amazing addition to our household and she felt more like another grandma then a nanny. When we moved to Atlanta, she came with and helped us get settled in. She stayed for our first year and we were all sad to see her return to her family in Chicago. She had been an integral part of our village. If you have adopted transculturally and you need a nanny, I highly recommend finding someone of your children's culture. That being my experience, I have no idea how to find a nanny starting from scratch. This is where Natalie's guide is so helpful. What I like most about the guide is the specifics she provides. There are questions to answer to see if a nanny is right for you. Natalie helps you determine what exactly you are looking for in a nanny. Sample ads are provided as are questions for interviews. Natalie truly walks you through the process step by step in a very easy to read manner. This guide is just what the current Nanny searcher needs if they want to find a nanny on their own.
