Nearlythree years ago my Samsung Galaxy S2 (i9100) system completely broke (after about 1 or 1.5 years of what I would call normal Samsung usage :D - a lot of errors and problems, but usually fixable) and wasn't bootable any more and I decided to install CyanogenMod. After some struggling I was able to flash it correctly via heimdall (on Linux) and used it for more than a year afterwards.

At some point it suddenly stuck at the Samsung boot logo (I can't tell any more if there was a specific reason) and I was really stressed by my job so I had little time to repair it. I bought an HTC and still am very happy with that. Sadly, my brother is in big need of a replacement for his damaged phone so I am trying to repair the Samsung.

I found out that it does not only hang on the boot logo, but also is not able to boot into Recovery Mode by pressing (in that and any other order) [Vol-Up]+[Home]+[Power]. I am able to boot it into Download Mode by pressing [Vol-Down]+[Home]+[Power] though, so I decided to simply try and flash a current CyanogenMod kernel following the CyanogenMod Guide for my device. Neither the latest of the Snapshot nor the latest of the Nightly releases and not even an allegedly official 4.0.3 ROM are working, though.

Anyhow. I am on Mageia Linux and used heimdall exactly as yeti described (thanks!) [UNOFFICIAL BUILD] Unofficial Pi/e/ Community Build for Samsung Galaxy SII / S2 - i9100 with the difference i did not use adb, but used TWRP to install the zip from an inserted SD.

I am not sure, but I had the same issue after flashing with adb sideload. I waited more than 1h for the first booting. I forgot, that there was an SD plugged in. I removed the SD and flashed the phone again. After flashing without SD, my i9100 booted successfully. I think it took 20 minutes for the first boot. Maybe it does not work with an SD-Card plugged in. After the first successful boot, I plugged the SD-Card in. The SD was successfully detected, formatted and worked.

Download this and extract the files from ZIP folder and copy the zImage file in your sdcard location and open the CWM and flash the Kernel, Not the ROM. Be careful, to flash the kernel with this zImage only, If other images are there in the same directory move them, or move this file to new folder, where you can easily recognize the image file location.

My S2 overheats and my 3500 mAh battery last about 6 hrs. I have just turned off the Wi Fi and the phone is working well with hardly any battery use. When the wifi is turned on the whole system slows down and is very unresponsive and slow.

The phone is not rooted yet but i am willing to learn.

Thank You Chaladi, has been heating up for a while even with the old battery. This is my wifes old phone and she had it back a few times to fix but has always had problems. It is always upgraded when a software update comes out. Since turning off the wifi it has used 1% battery in 9 hrs.

I will turn it back on tonight and monitor. If it still gets hot and the other problems continue, i will root and play with different kernels. Thank you for your time.

Hi, even sometimes we can relate this behaviour to the kernel bug or ROM bug. Or maybe hardware failure sometimes. So what we can do from our side as basic first steps to act is to have new kernel installed or ROM change to the phone.

The problem is that: I open my wifi normaly it connects normaly but when it comes to download data for pages or files it stops and it starts all the time. And all this happens in a loop. Start, stop, start, stop. Should I apply the siyah kernel to jely bean or my problem does not occur by kernel malfanctions

The WiFi Drivers are functioned at kernel level with the programmed drivers and options set in Kernel. You can switch between different best kernels, till you find your problem is fixed. Note, you can install different kernels on your ROM, if your ROM supports that kernel. Example, New JB may not accept old Kernels, so little study has to be made and apply different kernel.

And for some, the min bytes free manipulation in kernel solved the case, Please see the minimum bytes free size manipulations solution in xda forums or google to check how you can change the min bytes value. As this has already been documented, i donot have to redocument it in my blog again.

Hi Chaladi,

I have recently updated my Galaxy S2 with 4.04 ICS from 2.3 Gingerbread via ODIN. I am facing the problem of wifi connectivity. I highly Recommend you to follow the above 2 Steps to help solve your problem. Even Myself Faced this Internet Access Problem on my Phone and Changed the Security Method which allowed me to access internet in no time.

Try changing the Security Method, Password and If possible SSID; I mean WIFI Name. Hope, you knew how to change all these setting for your WiFi Router from your desktop Or Laptop comfort. If not sure or unknown, No Worries, I am still Happy to help you.

This is just an amazing post. I was trying to fix this issue in my phone and apparently, nothing worked. When I saw your post, I told myself, why not give it a try. And damn! The result is far my imagination. Now my WIFI issue has been resolved. As you said, the CWM process has gone smooth and is very easy to understand. Thanks for this brilliant post and for your help. Cheers!

hello, i have samsung galaxy s2 GT-I9100. the problem is my wi-fi is trying to get connected but it is not turning on. i also tried siyah kernel but not get any result. please suggest me some idea. iamm...@gmail.com

Use the channel "edge", vendor "samsung", device codename "i9100".It is recommended to use the mainline kernel, with the Phosh UI, and the WiFi firmwares for the best experience, but you can customize it to your needs.

The phone will reboot between the two commands, make sure to re-enter the ODIN (download) mode to execute the last command. This one can take a very long time to start. Once the transfer is complete, the phone will reboot again and your phone should boot into PostmarketOS.

Sekilsgs2 on Github created a u-boot bootloader port, based on the work done by the user astarasikov at this repository. It is possible to use it with PostmarketOS but it requires some things to be done by hand.

Once flashed, the phone will reboot and you should see u-boot appear. Configuring the boot options is not trivial as it can only be done by editing the source code (file: include/configs/galaxys2.h). The critical part for me was to change boot parameters in the section "boot_android" to something like this:

I had to boot the phone into recovery mode by holding down Volume Up, Power and Home until the boot logo of the phone would appear. This starts the recovery mode. Here I had to run the following two commands (using Volume up and down to navigate and power to select):

After I ran both commands, I selected reboot and the issue was fixed. The Samsung logo appeared for a short time, but the boot process continued after that allowing me to enter the phone's Pin number and proceed.

While I had to reconfigure most of the settings and preferences, and go through the on-screen help again (annoying), I was finally able to download and install the latest firmware update from within the phone.

I upgrade my samsung a5 SM-A500F into marshmallow it stucks on logo and I do wipe data and wipe cache but still stuck on the logo, I degrade my phone into lollipop and it works, so how could I upgrade my phone

pls, is there really no help? my samsung galaxy note 8.0 gt n-5100 is stuck at samsung logo anytime I switch it on. I have wiped the cache and restore factory settings through the use of power key and volume up key with home key to enter the mode. I have also tried using odin through odin mode with the .tar file I got online and followed all the instructions but still I cannot use my phone pleeeaaassseee heeeeeelp me. it is very serious and frustrating. thanks

Please someone help. Ive tried everything he did didnt work. What do i do im still stcuk at the boot animation, it showed my carrier and then the animated samsung logo ands just got stuck, Please please help

Actually the phone is Organizing folders in place that why it took too Long. Even I had wiped both accordingly, the logo was there for about 15 minutes after reboot. Then the registration screen came up. Thanks for everything here.

I was wondering when I would find someone who had the same experience as me. Many Thanks for posting. I installed all the updates on my AT&T Galaxy S5 Active starting from G870AUCS2DPH2 to G870AUCS2DPK5 from my SD card. Each time it acted the same. It would do the update and then reboot and stay at the logo for about 8 minutes, then vibrate once. It would then stay at the logo and after another minute or so the screen would dim for less than a minute and then the setup routine would appear.

My samsung note one is stuck on samsung logo. it enters into download mode but i cant get it into recovery mode tried every combination. tried to install firmware with odin the whole process is done odin gives pass sign the phone restarts and again hangs on samsung logo. please can anyone help?

great thanks for your suggestion bro

I got the same logo problem after i update the firmware as i had rooted my device too. A moment i was thinking that its gone, i destroyed mo phone but your suggestion worked dude. Soo once again thanks and keep going on

Thank you so much, this worked perfectly on my samsung Galaxy Tab A after i flashed stock firmware using odin.

I flashed stock to overcome being locked to telstra australias network!

Thanks again,

this post saved me!

And today I think to downgrade my phone to default software 4.4.4 kitkat. I googled for it and downloaded the firmware from sammobile and do everything you mentioned in the above post. All was going well but at time of restarting the device, it stuck on Samsung logo screen. I thought that now it is the time to spend some money on my phone but again I googled for the solution and found this article :)
