First of all I want to say the website is brilliant and to the point,
looks exactly like what Microsoft should have done with Windows Live
Favorites. Honestly though I'm a big-time user/fan of delicious but if
threetags matures enough I'd be apt to make the switch.

I do realize my suggestions are geared more towards making threetags
into a hardcore bookmarking tool rather than a sophisticated research
tool. So these suggestions may be unsuited to the mission/goal of
threetags.

Suggestions:
- import/export options for sites like delicious or Firefox bookmarks
- high buffer limit, whatever you call it (I have a little more than
20,000 tagged bookmarks, might overload your site)
- at the very top of the site add a tag search box with a pop-down
suggestion feature enabled (like delicious)
- public profile interface (not entirely necessary but comes in handy)
- RSS options (this is probably a complicated thing to build in, but
it helps for displaying tagged content on other sites)

Hello Operations,

thanks a lot for your suggestions!

(1) Import/export is coming;
(2) "high buffer limit" should be no problem - scalability is built-
in, although, admittedly, we have never tested the system with 20,000
notes/bookmarks;
(3) tag search box: that's an interesting suggestion, we will review
this; for now we feel that tag list on the left is a better option,
but maybe if you have several hundred tags, or more, a search box will
be useful; a maybe;
(4) public profile interface: do you mean the ability to share your
bookmarks with "the world"? then your notes/bookmarks are public,
which is kind of the opposite of what we are building here (a highly
private information storage service);
(5) RSS: I guess this is related to your #4 suggestion - you don't
really need the ability to subscribe to your own updates, you want to
share them with others. If this is the case, then, again, it will go
against the whole concept of superior data security/privacy that is
our unique feature. But then again, if enough users ask for this, we
will re-consider.

Best regards,
threetags.com team

Also want to say thanks for this service, I like it.

I also would suggest a tag search option and/or a drop down box with
the most relevant tags. Furthermore:

1) full text search function
2) Bookmarklet or extension for Firefox to automatically clip text to
threetags, possibly with tag options (similar to diigo)

Personally I don't need any sharing/public features, there are enough
services out there already. For private threetags is almost perfect.

Hi NetFlexx,

Thanks a lot for your suggestions!

A couple of comments:

1. tag search/drop down box: we are still reviewing this; if enough
users ask for the feature, we will definitely add it - we are just
trying to avoid cluttering the screen/interface too much; and of
course, each new feature makes the initial load time a bit longer and
uses a bit more memory, so we need to balance these performance
considerations with usability;

2. bookmarklet/extension: part of the roadmap, but more "down the
road": we are currently working on several exciting new features that
we feel will be more useful to the majority of our users;

3. full text search: this feature is currently impossible to implement
as all user data is stored encrypted on the server, and thus is
completely "obscure" for server-side analysis. Client-side searching
will become possible after we introduce off-line capabilities (and if
the user opts for non-encrypted local storage).

Feel free to offer more comments/feedback/suggestions!

Best regards,

Great product! Encryption is great, but I value full text search more
-- not sure if I can live without it :) How long before off-line
capabilities? As a workaround, if I could export all notes into one
file (.txt, .html), I could search that.

Hi Tinersco,

To export all notes into a single file, download all notes (the "last
page" button, directly under "Sign out"), select all of them, and then
click "Export".

On a more general note, there will always be trade-offs between
security and convenience. There are a number of services available
that allow full-text search, but they are not as focused on security/
privacy as we are (there was actually a security breach in google docs
last week). Although we try to overcome this issue as much as
possible, and will continue to improve the usability of our service
(for example, we are introducing hierarchical tags today), we probably
will never be able to reach the ease-of-use some of our competitors
enjoy, because we consider data security/privacy ("encryption", as you
refer to it) as our key feature.

So for people who value convenience over privacy, other services might
be better suited than what we offer. But people who are not willing to
put their data at risk will find our service superior to most (all?)
available at the moment.

Hopefully, this helps clarify the issue a bit.

Hi, I'm using threetags to keep the budget requests of my clients, I
would like to color the lines in order to put them in different states
(green - responded, red - not answered, blue - out, etc)

Hi Ramonjosegn,

Thanks for the suggestion! Yes, color tagging (I think that is what
you are referring to) is on our roadmap, but no ETA yet. We have a
major feature update coming out soon, and so we will probably include
the feature you are requesting in the next round of development.

Best wishes,
