Hi guys,
We're going to be hosting a Flames of War Slow Grow league for four months from 1 July 2014, growing by 300 points per month - which should very roughly equate to one platoon a month. The aim of this will be to try and get into the system, and paint up armies as we go. We're going to use the rules of the Warhammer Fantasy Slow Grow that's been running for the last 6-7 months (as it’s worked really well), just with a more abbreviated timeline - it encourages painting and playing against different opponents, and it’s pretty balanced across the board. Please feel free to distribute this and invite anyone you feel may be interested in joining us.
The most interest seems to be Late War, so we’ll be encouraging people to use lists from those books.
Schedule:
July: 600 points
August: 900 points
September: 1200 points
October: 1500 points
There will be a ‘blood book’ at the club, so please feel free to enter in all games played into the book. If you’re unable to for whatever reason, feel free to email the results through to me directly.
Game scoring:
Win: 3 points (Only one win per player will count.)
Loss: 1 point (Every loss counts, even if it’s multiple against the same player)
Draw: 2 points
Underdog bonus: 5 points (If you’ve lost every game this step, but played at least 5 games)
Painting scoring:
1 model (or team) fully painted: 5 points
1 platoon fully painted: 3 points (cumulative with the above)
Entire army painted: 2 points (cumulative with the above)
Entire army based: 1 point (cumulative with the above)
(So, for example: if you’ve painted one platoon you would score 5 points for one model painted AND 3 points for one platoon fully painted. This is to encourage people to at least paint something.)
Importantly, you have to stick to a list for during that league month but are allowed a single change of that list within the month. Sometimes you take a new unit or combination, and it becomes immediately apparent that it’s just not going to work - and we don’t want people to not play because of silly mistakes.
There’s also likely going to be a lot of proxying in the first month or two, as it’s a brand new game system to most of us - so please be patient. Please email if you have any questions or concerns!
We use both the 3+ google group and the facebook group for communication and arranging games, please feel free to join either:

Looks good.

Nope – terrain is a labour of love. Enforcing production leads to people playing games with rocks stuck to cardboard. :P
Love the terrain mike... love the terrain :P
Howzit all.
Although I’ve been unable to come through the last few Wednesday nights I will gladly take part in this. Also I’m prepared to host a 15mm painting tutorial for anyone who’s interested.
Some points re FOW games at lower points levels that I got from Rex Barret (the local FOW guru – check out his quite spectacular painting blog on http://cracdeschevaliers.blogspot.com/):
1. Certain mission are not condusive to anything below 1000 pts. Steer clear of anything with delayed reserves as with so few troops on the table you don’t want to lose games due to kak reserve dice.
2. Table size: At 600pts a 4x3 or 4x4 table is sufficient. Move over to full 6x4 table once you are playing over 1000pts.
Ok cool. Let’s roll some dice!
