EPUB File Reader is a free EPUB files viewer, can help you to open and read ePub e-books and documents. The software interface consists of two parts, the left will show document chapter directory, the right is a browser to show document content. This software is easy to use very much, it is a freeware and completely free to use.

Through "File" menu, you can "Open" and "Close" a EPUB file (file extension is .epub). Using "Information" menu, you can view the major metadata in opened EPUB file, supported metadata includes: Title, Creator, Subject, Description, Publisher, Contributor, Date, Type, Formate, Identifiere, Source, Language, Relation, Coverage and Rights.

Through "View" menu, you can "Copy", "Select All" and "Print" current file. By using "Find" menu you can start a quick search. In addition, by using "Save Current Page As" menu, you can save current page as a standalone file (HTML format).

EPUB is an XML-based e-book publishing format standard, file content is expressed as XHTML. EPUB format is a very popular, if you have some e-books in this format, this software is exactly what you are looking for.

Another useful option, try this in Firefox; -US/firefox/addon/45281/, a fairly good extension for the Firefox web browser that lets you read .epubs from the browser, especially good since on Ubuntu you are likely to be using Firefox and it is usually kept open when you are using your computer.

lucidor at does a decent job. I completely removed calibre from my system because it doesn't let me leave the books in my own directory structure. (Then spent hours moving the thousands of books into a directory structure I like by hand.) I couldn't find coolreader to try. Okular I like but the extensions did not work on epub for me. fbreader works but you have to open it up first and then the book whereas lucidor you can right click from the file manager to associate epubs to lucidor.

You can move the unpacked archive content wherever you want in your file system. But please be careful to always keep together all the files, especially the epubcheck.jar file (the EPUBCheck binaries) and the lib/ directory (the dependencies binaries).

Alternatively to the previous method, you can possibly download and install EPUBcheck from a package manager. This method can be easier as it will typically create an epubcheck command that you can run anywhere in your file system (without having to call it through the java command).

Alternatively, if you installed EPUBCheck with a package manager, you should be able to use the same package manager to update EPUBCheck. Please refer to the documentation of your package manager of choice to know the udpate procedure.

I completely uninstalled the previous version (2.0) before trying to install. Trying to reinstall 3.0 gives me the same exact error. A search of the Forums did not turn up a similar issue; I can't believe this is a unique problem.

I think I found my own solution to this issue. It seems to be caused by reinstalling Digital Editions after uninstalling an older version. Before trying to install the package again, I downloaded a fresh copy of the welcome.epub file. You can find this on the Adobe Digital Editions Home / Download Adobe Digital Editions page under Additional Downloads. It's disguised, so it reads Download Getting Started with Adobe Digital Editions (EPUB, 55 KB): -editions/assets/welcome.epub.

Create -- if you don't have it already -- a folder under C:\Users\YourUserID\Docs\ (substituting your own User ID for YourUserID, of course) called My Digital Editions. Copy the welcome.epub file you downloaded into the new folder. It seems that since I moved My Documents to another drive, Adobe couldn't find its Getting Started book during the installation.

I did a complete, and I mean complete uninstall of Adobe Digital Editions. Using Geek uninstaller, I cleaned out everything. The My Digital Editions folder had a few files in it. I backed up the books, and used Unlocker to delete all the rest. Did a clean install and everything works fine.

Today i have seen epub Thumbnails for managing in DO.
After double klick on epub a window will opened and tell mi open with the i choose Calibe ebook viewer.
Now all files will be connected with Calibe ebook viever and see the icon from calibe in the thumbnail list in DO. how i can get the thumbnails again in DO.

If it's not working in File Explorer either, contact the vendor of the epub software for support. (Reinstalling the software or making it the default handler may also fix things. It's possible you have multiple epub programs and the one that was the handler for the file format before Calibre took over the extension was the one which had the thumbnailer. But I can only guess, as this is all a question of software outside of Opus itself, and depends what you have installed on your machine to handle epub files.)

Adds thumbnail preview to Windows Explorer for EPUB, FB2 and Kindle ebooks; CBZ, CBR, RAR and ZIP archives. - GitHub - fire-eggs/DarkThumbs: Adds thumbnail preview to Windows Explorer for EPUB, FB2...

All I had to do was download the installer from the Releases section. Install. Then check the boxes off for whatever file types I want it to generate a thumbnail of in the Directory Opus Viewer. Just make sure Preferences > Viewer > Viewer Pane > Display shell thumbnails is enabled.

For years I have downloaded library e-books (epub format) to Adobe Digital Editions and then moved them to my Nook. Early in December 2016, they would not download to ADE and I get the message "unable to download. License Server Communications Problem: E_STREAM_ERROR". My daughter lives in another town and is having the same problem trying to borrow e-books from her library. How do we fix this? Our libraries just want to say it is a problem with our computers and/or Nooks!

I have been working on the same problem for over two weeks. I have worked with two library districts. With one of the librarian;s sat with me and tried going through the chat for over 2 hours that day and I spent .5 hours today, but in the end they-3 different people on Adobe chat-sent me here saying it would be taken care of. I have updated my version to the latest, but the glitch seems to be that the email even in the new version is an old one that I have not had access to for years. I asked for the 2 of the people in the chats to change it or fix it, they would send me to the forums. I am getting very frustrated as this is my only way to download books.

I have the same problem, I could not download an ebook from the Library to Digital Editions, I was told by a library person that there is problems with older versions of ADE and that I needed to un-install and re-install, I did this managed to get through and Authorize my Computer (Desk top PC) only to find that I still can not open a library book in ADE, with a technical person within the library who looks after the audio and e section, when going through stuff to do with ADE we discovered that we have a problem with the ACSM file it is not connected with ADE I asked the Adobe technical chat line who are getting paid for sitting there NOT answering questions and telling me I need to speak with an expert in the forum, to which I have only found this page so far .... so not much help there but I defiantly need help to get to be able to read my books again on my desk top PC

What I tried deauthorizing/reauthorizing ADE on my computer, uninstalling ADE 4.5.2/reinstalling ADE 4.5.3, uninstalling 4.5.3/reinstalling 3.0, uninstalling 3.0/reinstalling 4.0 (Installation issues for Adobe Digital Editions 4.0). I made sure that acsm and epub files were associated with ADE.

I finally read on one post (My digital editions has stopped working ) that once ADE crashes, it tries to reopen in its previous state and crashes again. I did as that poster suggested: I copied my ADE folder to another location in My Documents, then deleted the original folder. When I tried to reopen ADE and download a book--it finally worked and I was able to download my library book!! While reloading the books from my backup file individually hasn't worked, I have been able to download additional books from a second library into ADE with no problem so far (fingers crossed that that continues).

With Atlantis Word Processor, you can convert any document file into an eBook in the EPUB format. And when you need to make a change to an eBook, all you need to do is modify the corresponding source document in Atlantis, then resave it as eBook.

However, at times you might want to make adjustments to EPUB files that are not possible directly through the GUI of Atlantis. This can be done with the tweak_epub utility, irrespective of whether the EPUB files were generated by Atlantis or by another application.

All EPUB files are actually ZIP files with ".epub" as their filename extension instead of ".zip". So if you rename an EPUB file by changing its ".epub" extension to the ".zip" extension, you'll be able to open the newly-renamed ".zip" file in any file compression software, and view the files contained within the original EPUB package. You can then extract files of interest, modify them in a text editor, and put them back in the ZIP file. To recover a working EPUB package (file), you finally need to change the file extension back to ".epub" (instead of ".zip").

There is one important detail to remember when you modify an EPUB file in a ZIP software. The first file in any proper EPUB package must be "mimetype", and it is always a 20-byte ASCII file containing this string of text:

This "mimetype" file must always be stored within the EPUB package in uncompressed form. So before using a ZIP software to tweak your EPUB files, make sure that the software will preserve the original order of files, and leave the "mimetype" file uncompressed. Not every ZIP software will allow such "delicate" changes to a ZIP file.

The tweak_epub utility will allow you to make adjustments to your EPUB files in a very convenient way. You'll be able to adjust individual files within an EPUB package without affecting the other files in it.
