Please correct me if that's wrong. My question is, if someone's Steam status is online, does that mean they are currently using the Steam client, or that they are just logged in (Steam is in their computer's system tray next to the clock) ?
This means that Away can reliably inform you of whether or not that user has touched their keyboard/mouse within the last 10 minutes. Keep in mind Steam does not detect controller input when it determines this. That means if you are in a non-Steam game playing with a controller, then Steam will detect you as Away.
Even if you are in a Steam game and using a controller, Steam will set you to Away - but the "In-Game" status always takes precedence on the friends list so you can only see it if a friend happens to have a chat window open with you. When you go away it will show the message "Username is now Away." despite being in-game. This is because Online, Away, and Snooze are actually tracked separately and being In-Game does not overwrite them.
Having an online status on Steam means you are using a Steam client that is currently active. Showing I am playing a NON-Steam game or meaning I am just , for example watching YouTube.
Being logged in means I could have Steam X'd out, but the task is still running (Meaning I closed the Window and not completely ended the task) whilst having any type of status of online, offline, away, snooze, looking to play, and looking to trade.
I have pre-ordered FIFA 22 on steam for a month, and then I decide to purchase EA Play Pro for early access to the game. But the thing that I wonder is EA play pro will work only in ORIGIN or it can work on steam ? that means I have to purchase the game in origin or it can link with steam as well?
if my understanding is correct here, you can launch the game from steam if your subscription expires as your steam account is linked to your Origin account and you will have all progress accessible going forward with the Steam Edition.
EA Play Pro is a Origin exclusive subscription, therefore you need to buy that subscription on Origin and also launch the game via Origin. We only offer the Standard EA Play subscription via Steam, so you can't play the game via Steam if you want to own EA Play Pro.
I have been using air link to play PC games with my quest 2 for a while now. I used to be able to simply click on steam VR while using desktop mode in air link then the application will launch and I'm good to go. But now I cannot. Once I'm in the air link and I select steam VR it does not launch the application in my headset directly, I can see steam VR home on my desktop and I can even see my controllers moving. But when I look into my headset all I see is the oculus home and no steam application is being projected into my headset. Steam VR even says it detects my headset and controllers but it won't launch into my headset. This is what my desktop looks like. The application is clearly viewable and working on my monitor but none of that is going on in my headset.
So I JUST got mine working after deleting and reinstalling steam and trying everything else. What fixed it was simple. Open steam on your PC, then find steam VR app in your library (you can search for it in the search bar)
You can hit the X after that to close the pop up window and then let it finish downloading. I then restart steam after force closing in task manager and BOOM steam VR finally launches in air link for me

were you able to get this resolved?? I just got my quest 2 for christmas, and i have a lot of steam VR games, i cant get any steam vr game to launch in air link. I can play my rift games just fine, it's only steam, i'm having the same kind of issue you are.
I have not tried Virtual Desktop yet. I am aware of the application but I would like to get the Quest Link option fixed as that does not cost money while Virtual Desktop does. I'm currently engaging with Steam Support, although they haven't seemed to give me any helping solutions yet. If I end up trying virtual desktop ill let you know the results.
I'm currently speaking to Steam Support about my problem as that was what MetaQuestSupport recommended me to do. I have not come to a solution. I will definitely let you know if my problem gets resolved. A mod responded to my post suggesting I try Virtual Desktop, it's an app that does exactly what Air Link does except it costs about $25 CAD so I think I will leave that to a last resort. But if you want, you can try that.

My friends tries to play overcooked 2 on steam, it says on steam you can play it on macOs, but my friend can't press space to continue, my friend uses macbook pro m2 2023 but can't press space or any key on the "move the edges on the screen so that all corners are fully visible. press space to confirm:
Having the exact same issue. Was working fine until I updated my OS to Sonoma 14.2.1, already reinstalled the app and everything. I can make it to the menu screen but no input (key presses, clicks) are being registered, while mousing over different buttons works. I figure it must be an issue with input monitoring or an app-specific issue.
Hi! Has this issue been resolved on the mac update? I'm playing on the beta branch but it's incredibly hard to find other online players (takes super long), when will it be fixed so we can switch back to the regular branch? Thanks
If this does not happen with other Mac apps, then your question would be better direct to Steam or the game developer, not Apple or the end-user volunteers who make up these forums. Please let up know if other apps are affected and, if so, which ones.
I am not brushing you off, but rather trying to point you to the fastest and most effective help based on my 20+ years of participating here. There is little game support here, and Apple does not answer posts in this setting.
Yes and no, If you are invited through Steam I still get the network error message however, when sent a friend request and then an invite through the T17 network from in the game I can get into a lobby with my friends. Use the in-game user name, which should look like (Example#0000) I hope this helps others.
Usually, when a highly anticipated video game comes out, we hear about it months in advance. This allows the developer to build anticipation. That didn't happen with Hades II, as developer Supergiant Games surprised everyone by putting the game out in early access on Steam without as much as a press release.
Sure, there was a technical test for the game that could have tipped an impending launch, but game developers often do tests well before the actual release to ensure smooth development progress. The company did announce that it would follow an early access launch plan, as it did with the first Hades, but it didn't say when.
Right now, the early access game is only available on Steam for PC players, but it is Steam Deck certified, so you can take it on the go. A rogue-like game like Hades II is well-suited to a handheld platform like the Steam Deck, so it's nice to see Supergiant Games make it work on the small screen.
In Hades II, players take the role of Melinoe, the protagonist's sister from the first game. She's also the Princess of the Underworld, with all kinds of witchcraft that support the traditional Greek god powers her brother brought to the table. Of course, the sequel comes with the requisite "new locations, challenges, upgrade systems, and surprises."
"Battle beyond the Underworld using dark sorcery to take on the Titan of Time in this bewitching sequel to the award-winning rogue-like dungeon crawler," reads the game's Steam page. The $29 game already features "overwhelmingly positive" user reviews.
The team behind Hades II didn't say how long the early access period would last. "We expect Hades II to be in Early Access development at least through the end of 2024. Given the nature of Early Access development, we don't have a specific end date planned at this time," reads the game's announcement post.
It sounds like there's already a lot of content for players to enjoy, even if some isn't done. "Hades II in Early Access already has more environments, foes, and fully-voiced characters than the full version of the original Hades game. But it isn't complete, and key areas, characters, foes, narrative events, and systems are still to come," said the developers regarding the current state of the game.
Supergiant Games is looking for feedback from players, so it doesn't seem the company is just trying to get the game out early. "This is a game with many interconnected parts, and your feedback helps us ensure everything from the balance to the narrative are working as well as possible," the team said.
