"RIP Mom. I'll love you forever.
Bette Buie Miller
3/31/1949-3/1/2011"
I created a care calendar for Sarah's friends to help her during this
difficult time. If you have any thoughts, please share them. If you'd
like to help or contribute, please use the care calendar to plan, as
it has many open days where Sarah will need help, as well as her
address. Use the following login info:

Here are my thoughts:
I never thought that day would come for Sarah and in a selfish way I
didn't want it to. I know her mom was in pain, suffering from the
effects of incurable brain cancer for years. I feel that Sarah is
lucky that her mom held-on so long to meet Vala, but at the same
time... how hard it must have been for Sarah to see her mom for so
long in this end-state.
I'm trying to avoid saying things like "she is in a better place"
because I feel that we don't know this. If you have a belief, I
respect that, but I think the best thing we can do right now is
provide support and respect to the family grieving.
My memories of Mrs. Miller are greatly present during my formative
years. She was my Girl Scout troop leader when I was around 12. She
planned crafts galore, sleepovers, retreats, a "camping" trip at
Disney Wilderness Lodge and brought full fixings for vegetarian tacos
to support her daughter's conscious 11-year-old activist diet, etc.. I
have no doubt that she was a loving, supportive mother and positive,
caring troop leader for us girls.
I wish that Vala could have known who she is a bit better, but I have
no doubt that a lot of her good qualities will live-on through Sarah.
Bette Miller, thank you for being a positive light in a world that
sometimes seems dark. Thank you for leaving behind so much goodness.
