Firstly: This Friday, May 6th, we will be CLOSING EARLY (at 6pm instead of 8pm) so we can attend RaeAnna’s play.  Curtains open for ‘101 Dalmatians’ at L.P.H.S. at 7pm.

(sticking with the show-biz theme) The film ‘Star Wars’ has fascinated folks since it was first shown in 1977.  We may reference films in our THOTs from time-to-time but we don’t necessarily recommend many.  Star Wars is a movie that has something for everyone: and if you’ve never watched it, at least consider the possibility.

In fact, there may be no better day to get started being a Star Wars fan than on May the 4th, which is un-officially known as "Star Wars Day" – "May the 4th be with you."

There are some important messages to be gained from the Star Wars films and throughout LIFE a good understanding of the Star Wars philosophy might come in handy. The following themes tend to run throughout Star Wars:

-The reality that good and evil carry shades of gray and can cross over. Not everything is as it seems and we must all continue working hard to better ourselves and not make assumptions about how the world works.

-Anti-bullying --nasty people get their comeuppance, as it should be. Good stands against evil and friends stick by you no matter how bad things get.

-The importance of maintaining self-discipline over emotions.

-The utility of living according to a code of conduct.

-The self-destructiveness of a lust for power, and also of living in fear, and in anger, and in hate, and in selfishness.

-The power of knowledge: the truth can set you free.

-The wielding of technology changes it from a neutral tool into whatever the person wielding it decides.

-That there is an energy field called “the force” created by all living things that surrounds us, penetrates us, and binds us all together.  Some might say this similar to the chiropractic idea of Innate Intelligence, but understand the difference: Innate creates LIFE, where this idea in ‘Star Wars’ that says that it is LIFE that creates ‘the force.”

Remember- CLOSED early this Friday… May the Force be with you!  -Todd and Kelly
