My housemates don't want me setting up a home server because of fire hazard, I've seen very little, if anything, pointing to desktops causing fires, just laptop batteries (Can overheating laptops cause fire?). I've got this system all set up with Proxmox and if that was in vain... (I accidentally started the OS setup with the installer flash drive on a USB 1.1 port so it took FOREVER)
I guess the question is... if I had a desktop on 24/7 unsupervised, would there be a non-negligible chance for it to catch on fire assuming stock CPU cooler, no overclock, PSU not near full capacity, dusting/compressed air regularly, and standard maintainence?
In 2007-2011, there were an estimated 730 reported U.S. home structure fires involving office equipment per year... [of these] Computers [accounted for] 48%

I guess I'm confused about what you mean that your Kindle never shows as a "device"? Unless I'm sorely mistaken, the only devices that would show up on your Mac would be i-devices (iPhone, iPad, iPod, etc.). Since Kindle is an Amazon device, it has no native support on the Mac. The Mac does run the software that Amazon provides for Kindle users to be able to access their Kindle books on thier i-devices and Macs, but beyond that, there is no other suppor that I know of.
Have you ever launched the Android File Transfer app? The Amazon/Android help says you need to launch it manually the first time. (Apparently, it installs a stub of some sort to get itself launch subsequently.)
Thanks for sticking with this with me. I have a feeling that I will be referring back to this discussion at Christmastime, as I got my husband a new Kindle Fire, and we will probably have to go through the same exercise. I have such an old Kindle (one of the originals, I think), that I never had anything but the Kindle app on all my devices, and since I only use if for reading, had just not run into anything more sophisticated than opening the app and then my book.....
Thanks for all your advice - I wanted to do the same thing so I downloaded the Android File Transfer app as suggested and put some of my films into it whilst it was open on my Macbook desktop. All good so far. But now I can't find the films on the Kindle. Where do they go? Or have I missed a step where I am supposed to then move the films out of the Android File Transfer app and into the Kindle?? Not sure what to do next.
The recalled all-in-one desktop computers, or PCs, are flat-panel monitors with the PC integrated into the monitor housing itself. The power supplies are also inside the monitor or PC housing. The computer chassis has a matte black finish with the brand name "ThinkCentre" in the lower left hand corner of the monitor front. The recalled desktop model numbers are M90z and M70z along with the serial number and manufacturing date code can be found on a label on the underside of the unit.
Only certain of the M70z and M90z computers built in this time frame are affected. Consumers will need to check the serial number on their computer with Lenovo to determine if it is subject to this recall.
Consumers should immediately stop using the computers, unplug the power supply and contact the firm to determine if your computer is included in the recall and to schedule an appointment for a free replacement of the power supply.

fire fox desktop goes black. just the desktop not the task bar or taps on display, just the display. I checked my settings and scanned the fire fox program for virus found nothing. I need to shut-down and restart to get my screen back and of course anything that was being displayed is gone. It happens on any site I'm on at the time.
I doubt it's my graphic drivers since it happens within the fire fox web browser itself. It effects only the desktop or display area, the task bar is fine, sound is working, tabs still there and can be switched from one to another, just no picture. It seems to be random when it happens. Text, video or pictures doesn't matter. 5 minutes in or after a couple of hours doesn't matter.
I went to device manager and choice my graphic driver and did an update, also manually had fire-fox update itself as well after updating the driver. so far it's been 2 hours and no black display area yet.
I know there is no such concept of "orientation change" on desktops, but inside chrome dev tools there is an option to change the orientation. I see "resize" event firing on changing the orientation which is justified.. since AxB becomes BxA, but why doesn't the orientation even fires?
What you are describing should work from your dev-tools, since these will extend the available web-API to make your desktop browser behave like a mobile one, from where orientation can really change.
From my Chrome 79 on macOs, clicking the responsive's mode "rotate" icon makes the event fire just fine.
When you submit your app to the developer portal, you must include at least three screenshots of your app. This guide describes the process of taking screenshots on Fire tablets, generic Android devices, and desktop computers. To learn more about how to view your web app on a mobile device please refer to the Web App Tester documentation.
Select the tablet, and click the camera icon. (If the tablet isn't shown, from the Window menu, select Navigation > Show View Menu > Reset adb) The Device Screen Capture window shown below displays the current screen as shown on the tablet. If the device screen saver is on, the window shows what would be on the screen if the screen saver was not running.
